hii! i just recently got promoted to cpl and im taking first parade for the first time tonight. im kinda nervous n just wondering if anyone has tips
While we are one RAFAC, and work off one drill book, we split into ATC and CCF
of those ATC, there are ~900 units
Each one of those units is different, and with it how they interpret the Drill book.
in short any advice we can give you will be generic and not specific enough to help you on your unit. What works on my unit, doesn’t on my neighbouring unit, so no suggestion it will for you.
however, not wanting to not give you an answer
- firstly trust in your OC. they would not have promoted you if they didn’t think you could do the role, and that includes taking a parade.
- secondly, speak to your SNCOs, and indeed fellow Cpls - they’ll have hints, tips and maybe even tricks which will help.
- don’t worry if you mess up - everyone knows this will be your first time and no one is an expert or perfect on their first go at anything
- finally breathe - you have done this before, just from within the parade. what you are going to be doing you have seen done before 100 times previously, and so have the Cadets in front of you - so you know whats coming and so do they…it is a well rehearsed format on your unit, you only have to remember “your lines” and you know them already having heard them from other NCOs time after time after time…
best of luck
As a general thing; be okay with making mistakes.
You’re new to the position, so there isn’t a single person expecting you to be perfect straight away. It’s a skill to be able to make a mistake, laugh it off, learn the lesson then crack on anyhow.
So yeah, try not to make mistakes, but don’t fret so much about not doing so that it panics you, nor should you beat yourself up if you do make one.
