MODS if this is in the wrong section apologises

Does anyone have a break down for the cost of a complete cadet issue of uniform.

Can you list the NSNs and/or label descriptions of the items you are after?

Use cadet rip off to get an exaggerated cost, if you are intending to put the frighteners on.

I can give you these prices:

Beret: £2.07
Cap badge: £0.49
Brassard: £0.48
Brassard badge: £0.16
Jumper: £7.70

I can’t give the rest as I don’t know what you chaps wear.

Beret, Blue-Grey: £2.07
Cap badge, ATC: £0.49
Jersey, Blue-Grey: £7.70
Tutu, Pink: Priceless!

MW - we try and keep what you wear quiet, for all of our sakes :stuck_out_tongue:

So: just to be clear about this - are you saying for example that if I were to pay you £20.70 plus some postage and packing you would be able to legitimately sell me 10 new RAF pattern blue-grey berets?

Compton Webb, Kangol, Small Crown, Supak, Victor, or what maker?

Leather or petersham headbands?

I could be interested, but only if they are fully legit. And either new or low mileage.

Trousers are around £13 from reading the label on a set we just got sent as part of a uniform order.

What he wears on Saturday night stays in the Wing, and on ACC :stuck_out_tongue:

No - I’m afraid I am not a shop. Those are the prices to the MOD.

Wish we could get some berets at that price. Our latest order for uniform for 20 kids took 4 months for them to sort and they only sent 2 berets. We had to order from rip-off direct and paid £90+ for 10 berets plus postage.

At the risk of going off topic, it sounds like your uniform system needs to be changed. Granted 20 cadets is a lot to put into uniform in one go, but 4 months is ridiculous. The last time I saw numbers that bad was when the Army was switching to MTP and we couldn’t get much DPM through the system. Not in the right sizes anyway!

We did a big recruitment drive going round all the local schools, it was tight for remembrance parade as we had to order the berets on the monday before.
Our parent unit is rubbish, they openly say that it can take a minimum of 4 weeks to pick an order as it will be done in their spare time once all other tasking is done.

The problem is it’s part of the RAF, bases draw down and their parenting responsibilities amagamate in the new parent units, without extra staffing to cope with the added demand.

Most stores pers are not fully occupied, so they have plenty of ‘spare time’. It sounds like your parent unit has a lazy useless personage working in clothing stores.

You clearly haven’t been to Brize of late. The stores is ridiculously busy now that it equips everyone from Devon to Oxfordshire.

Part of the problem is the antiquated system we use for ordering uniform, ie bits of paper and stuck with one place. Maybe it’s about time we ordered from source (central stores) using an online system and get the things delivered and move away from the parented station model, as it doesn’t seem to work anymore unless you live within 20 miles of the locale and can nip down as and when.

It is quite interesting that places like rip off and Silvermans can get things when we are told, there are none to be had and are forced to pay a premium price. It seems that either stroes/RAF are lying through their teeth OR the procurement bods need a kick up the backside as they aren’t able to do their job OR a bit of both. The farce we had whereby the clothing contracts hadn’t been renewed (as we were told) so we couldn’t get uniform, demonstrated a level of incompetence wouldn’t be tolerated in the real world. I’ve seen buyers and planners at work put on competency procedures, bonuses recalled and in one case downgraded from manager to clerk (they didn’t stay long) when contracts haven’t been renewed.

And when they close St Athan they will be looking after all of south and west wales as well.

Muh ha ha ha!

I had the same problem in 2002. I paraded the cadets in partial uniform and then sent the photos to the Wing Commander.

30 full sets of uniform arrived two weeks later, along with an apology.
