Morning All,
Quick question. What is the etiquette for the wearing of No.1 SD at a Squadron Awards/Presentation Evening?
Medals or No Medals?
Thanks

Depends on the format, seniority of any special guests etc.
If you’re dragging in local dignitaries then I’d say yes to medals (we do). If more of a low key affair I’d say no.
AP1358C is silent on the topic. If you refer to AP1358 Section 8, it refers to “Ceremonial” and “Non Ceremonial” occasions in No1SD. Ribbons only for non-ceremonial, Full size orders or decorations in ceremonial.
They were my first ports of call. So what denotes “Ceremonial” Vs “Non Ceremonial”?
OC’s perogative

OC’s perogative ;)[/quote]
I am beginning to think that is the case!
If they mayor is invited with their bling then surely any uniformed staff invited would want to show off their bling?
Pretty much - there is clearly a formal/ceremonial capacity, even if it is just welcoming dignitaries or standing at the front saluting/shaking hands etc.
My view is that it is appropriate.
Ceremonial - external guests, dignitaries, senior officers (proper ones), VIPs
Nom ceremonial - duty officer (station), press gathering, inspection (local), hats on interview sans cafe etc
I agree with OP NIMROD.
I think you should display your gongs and add ask VIP’s to wear also. I know we do at our presentation evenings.
Is your Squadron Banner going to be at the evening? If yes then medals…
Most of you have earned those JMs and CFMs so why not show them off? And of course the ex-regs should flash the bling too.

I’ve not got any gongs! Was just asking as I’m writing a invitation and wanted to know whether to say medals or not on the letter.

Pfft, young whipper-snapper
although i would agree that they should be worn…
post Remembrance Parade it was mentioned that our medals would be put away now until the new year, to which i said what about our Awards night to which the WO said medals are not worn at awards evenings…
i thought it a bit strange, why medals, a type of award, would not be worn at an awards evening.
in the end we wore jumpers, as did our Air Cdre Guest of Honour - by his request of ours i’m not sure
personally i would expect at least ribbons to be worn
Steve679: Ribbons are worn regardless as they are stitched onto the No1 jacket.
Everyone:
Look at the Millie’s awards (The Sun, I KNOW!) but that was an awards ceremony much like a Cadet one. No headdress and medals worn…
I say YES to medals at your presentation evening Leeroy…
Hit ‘THANK YOU’ if you agree with me :- )
