Oh I love la noir
“Remote” boards should be very easy to coordinate, regardless of any limitations imposed by who can interview based on a candidate’s wg / region.
Love how it says “by an RAFAC Group Captain, normally a Regional Commandant”.
Apart from COS and maybe 2fts.
Are there any other RAFAC Gp Capt?
Or is Carol going to chip in?
I mean if that’s the case… I rekon a few fuddy fuddys could be convinced to go into uniform.
Technically Carol is the only RAFAC Group Captain…
Is Chris Hoy still on the books… ‘technically’?
If only he’d held on instead of getting all grumpy he could have had that beard after all.
Still, I think Carol probably brings more to the table than he ever did. I’d never even heard of the bloke until they made him a Gp Capt… Some bicycle thing apparently. He could be the leader of the Special Boat Squadron for all I knew…
I’d argue the most successful GB Olympian of all time would resonant more with the youth than a TV personality best known for a show she hasn’t been on for 12 years.
She also holds a PPL, done lots of work for charity, currently resonates with a lot of parents of young children due to her Maths website etc etc. Your view is a little outdated I feel.
I’m thinking of the cadets, rather than of myself / my generation.
The question is, who is the Group Captain for?
My 5 year old knows who she is thanks to the use of her maths academy during lockdown.
In my mind they are there to generate exposure and use contacts to create opportunities. Carol does the first as a well known celebrity (rightly or wrongly helped by being an attractive female celebrity) and has certainly done the latter.
Yup, my kids know (17, 9, and 6) who she is because of the maths stuff. To they don’t know who Chris Hoy is.
I’d agree with that. Chris Hoy is a moody ex athlete who now does some promotional work and a bit of driving. I think we’ve had a lot more value out of Carol.
You learn something new every day…
As others have said I interpret the role to be very much being an ambassador for the Corps to industry, and less about being a celebrity face for the cadets. Though demonstrably Carol has that too, and probably more so than Chris Hoy I suspect.
Not entirely sure why this face to face malarkey has turned into Hoy vs Vorderman, but unless Harry Hill is about to jump out and yell “FIGHT!” we can end it there and get back on track
Beat me to it
So, has anyone heard anything more, as we come out of lockdown next week (in England)… Do we pick up where we left off? I know a few local squadrons were “permitted” to go into their buildings in lockdown 2.0 to run the taps etc… Are we going to continue to try and open again?
Not heard anything here since we went into lockdown 2.
Just looking back at the letter that was sent before it does say this:
At present, it is expected that indoor cadet activity in England will be able to resume after
midnight on Wednesday 2 December when the UK Government resumes its Tiered Level
approach. It is understood that some units may elect to hold off resuming indoor activity
until January 2021, rather than start up and break again for Christmas.
