On a positive note, it’s been good to see squadrons returning to inter-wing sports.
Been reading that some schools are planning to keep masks.
Maybe there’s someone here who works in a school who can update us as to what theirs is doing? Not sure how many we have in that area though apart from perhaps our CCF colleagues…
I’m loosely connected to education settings across our LA and beyond.
11 secondaries in our LA + 2 X SEND special schools. There are also 3 private schools I work with.
5/11 + 2 SEND schools are continuing with mask wearing in classrooms until Feb half term. 3 are only wearing masks in mixed areas. 3 have gone no masks. All the private schools have removed all covid measures.
Of those 5 wear mask wearing is being maintained, 2 still have “bubbles” which are being enforced. One still has teachers moving between classrooms, rather than students moving between classrooms. It’s also limiting external visitors to school.
The latter school, with masks, bubbles and restricted movement is the school with our lowest covid rates thought the pandemic. It also has the highest number of keyworker parents.
Also worth adding, parents and students at those schools wear mask wearing is being maintained haven’t - yet - complained to us as the LA or their governing board about the situation. I’ve seen 3 of the headteachers letters to parents regarding the decision. All describe the legal situation and DFEs own guidance but add that mask wearing is being encouraged, that there is a “collective responsibility” to protecting education of students and staff in reducing risk of transmission of disease - not just covid-19, but also the common cold - which causes a high degree of absence at this time of year… But had been curiously lacking since 2020. The 3 schools where these letters came from are the schools where they currently have outbreaks of 20-30% of year groups.
Seems like a strong indicator of and precedent for us continuing.
Distancing is the question though.
Yeap, I would be happy to see the back of this being enforced. Schools haven’t been able to do it at all in the classroom. Classrooms built for 30 students cannot be remodelled to do 30 students AND social distancing. Home/school transport haven’t been able to do it - a bus with 52 seats where every seat is full, cannot miraculously turn into a 104 seater bus so as to ensure distancing is maintained. Nor can we double the number of buses and bus drivers to make these adjustments!
As such, “hands” and “face” have been maintained to accommodate the absence of “space”.
The get out clause for HQAC is RAFAC is an optional activity where we can make adjustments for “space” - albeit at the risk of slowly killing squadrons and eroding what’s left of CFAVs motivation and morale.

They’ve never shown the slightest interest in our motivation and or morale before, so this won’t bother them, as it hasn’t before. Not convinced they are bothered about “killing” sqns either.

Just wanted to clarify that they haven’t gone green yet. I agree though that it has, as always, been quiet from the top!
I messaged 2FTS about ACTO35 in the middle of Dec 2021 - no reply. 
So apparently there is a HQAC Covid meeting tomorrow, after which the current guidance can be updated.
(I should add, ‘apparently’ here could mean literally anything, that’s just what someone told me!)
They were probably working from home until this week.
