So then how has the cullof Sgtswho havent attended SSIC affected your Wing… 5 lost here at first count.
No idea down here. Serves them right in my opinion.
Not heard if this, but please remember these are 5 VOLUNTEERS who may have been binned.
It is difficult for some to attend, ie Teachers. There is one course a year of each available to teachers, so if you miss that it will take you 2 years.
We all have lives outside, ATC doesn’t pay bills, especially at the moment where pay is months behind
One course available to teachers. Sorry, what?
Not aware of any completely cut. Do know of one person who was cut unfairly.
4 from my wing.
They were told they were binned out of the corps, not even CIs. They had to start from scratch if they want to remain a part of the ATC. What a waste.

For what reason did they not attend SSIC?

I think a lot of the general resentment might stem from the idea that nobody up the CoC thought to even ask. I have heard that in one case at at least, a Sgt who was binned had a course already booked, but it was outside the 12 month time-frame.
One course available to teachers. Sorry, what?
I assume that he means one course per year that coincides with the school holidays?
I can’t even begin to believe that for one minute.
Hard as it is for those who have been binned - I welcome it and its good to see the CoC enforce the rules.
It sends a clear message to all that it is a mandatory course.
Yes there will of been some good people binned - but I’ll wager just as many, if not more, wasters too.
As I said in an earlier thread, I’ve heard of a case of someone going 4 years without attending on the course. I welcome people being binned for not attending, and if someone has a genuine case for not being able to go then that should be taken into consideration (illness for example).
I have heard that one Sgt has been binned from my wing but he was not kicked out of the Corps and is now a CI again. Not heard this confirmed officialy though.

That sounds like total rubbish and is possibly not the full story??
One of my SNCOs is booked onto an SSIC late in 2014 and was appointed early in 2013. The person in question works in a factory and has to take most of his holidays as directed by his employers, they’re also performing in 2014 at a well known scottish military tattoo and as such the first time they can attend is late 2014.
Request sent with some justification and its not a problem for them to attend outside the 12 month time-frame.
i know of two Sgts who are now CIs based on there non-attendance at ATF, one was appointed for 4 years! both were “unappointed”
i would have thought the obvious route for any uniformed staff member unable to make the commitment to consider/be offered CI than just kicked out.
I will add, said person was asked by HQAC to provide a letter with evidence as to why they hadn’t attended yet was still binned to CI before HQAC even got the letter.
In complete agreement with you there Steve. That is exactly what my Dad did when other commitments meant he could no longer give the time.
I am one of those binned by the Corps over this.
I was binned 2 days after my 12 months was up (nobody bothered to tell me for another month though)
I actually found out when a mail went round telling ppl to book onto courses ASAP or be punished, When I mailed wing I was told it was too late as I was already “terminated”
I was told to resubmit my pers forms to re apply, but I have declined.
I actually told Wing back in Sept in writing that I could not do the course due to lack of leave until April (I had a personal reason to keep my leave free) They must not have sent this info up the chain
In my case there are now 2 units that I was staff of that are now down 2 members staff as my partner has also decided to call it a day ref the Corps.
I feel this could have been resolved by either communicating my leave status up the chain or by just telling the SNCO’s that if you haven’t booked a course by this date then you will be a CI again.
They were really heavy handed about it

You wrote to wing in sept. At that point you hadn’t even booked on a course. You were then recently binned. IMHO you had around 9-10 months earlier to get your finger out and at least book one even if it was in 2014.
you are HQAC’s Morale and Retention Officer, and i claim my £5.
regardless of the admin crap and whether this bloke should be an SNCO or a CI, two Sqn’s now have less people to drive the minibus, scrounge resources and provide staffing cover - two Sqn’s also now have OC’s with more on their already overloaded plates and who are therefore more likely than they were last week to say ‘fcuk it, i’m off…’.
well done, brilliant, excellent job.
