Pensions - anyone else see this on Forces News?

We may be in line for a military pension if part of the VRT - here’s hoping…

Seen but not applicable as VR(T) claimable duty was always been capped at 28 days a year

The ultra max of 3months was this limit precisely because of the reasons listed in the article.

The major in the article clocked up 150 days over several years which he was paid for - something that wouldn’t have happened with the vr(t)

Yep, most I was ever allowed was 52 days or they would owe me pension.

I’ve done over 50 days for the last 3 years and before that well into the 40s

Yes I suspect VR(T) AEF pilots might be eligible if doing that many days. Interesting.

VA was not actually capped at 28 days for VR(T)- with permisson you could go over. But there was a hard limit at 50 days which was tri-service - I remember discussions about this with CCF(Army). It was indeed to do with employment law IIRC

There was one particular year, before the rules changed and we started getting leave and a pension, that I did something like 167 days in the TA. My PSAO begrudgingly told me that, because I’d gone over something like 117 days, I was entitled to paid leave and would receive several additional days’ pay the following month. He assured me it wouldn’t be allowed to happen again and was true to his word.

So, there used to be reasons to stop people going over certain thresholds, but now we get leave and a pension from day one this is less of an issue.
