During my summer camp this summer our section will be spending the day at Penhale Training Area. I was just wondering if anyone has been here before and what activities did you do in your visit? From what I understand it is some kind of MoD training area.
It is - it’s a small training area right next to the beach with a rifle range. It’s undulating grass and sand dunes. There’s a small camp there that is (or was, I don’t know it it’s still in commission) just accommodation blocks and stuff.
It’s a nice place to spend the day - take sunscreen and a floppy hat, water, a camera and your swimming costume.
The camp is no longer, (all the buildings are still there as far as I’m aware, they’re just abandoned.) Which is a great shame as it was a great camp, our whole wing would descend upon it every October.
The training area is fine, lots of dunes, hills, sand and rabbit holes. Not a lot of foliage and just a solitary barn at the southern end.
