I was wondering do any jobs every come up that a C.I could actually apply for if do what are some examples. Every job wing and regional level are for squadron leader levels only.
Most of the admin roles at wing/region level are open to civilians, I don’t believe any of them require someone to be in uniform. They may say Sqn Ldr as that is the rank equivalent to the MOD grade for that job.
This is something I think RAFAC does quite badly. ACF posts like CAA and CEO are employed by RFCA and therefore open to CFAV as well as ex-regulars, SCC paid staff are employed by the MSSC charity and therefore open to all, but we’re subject to FTRS or Civil Service restrictions: meaning certain posts can only be taken by ex-regulars or reservists and others are more likely to be taken by a civil servant from another government department, with no relevant experience, than an experienced CFAV.
And is the main issue of recruitment through the CS. You can have two candidates for interview, both tick all the boxes through the CS competencies, one with and one without RAFAC knowledge, but if the one without RAFAC knowledge beats the other at interview against the competencies, there is nothing that can be done.
Its not based on RAFAC knowledge, that is desirable!!
