Old Sarum Airfield

Just to share news, if you haven’t seen already, that the WW1 aircraft hangars at Old Sarum Airfield have gone up in flames.

This comes just a week after the airfield operator successfully appealed to the High Court for planning permission to build 315 homes on part of the airfield.

From what i understand part of the permission was dependent on them repearing that listed hanger…coincidence much.

Cafes gone up aswell

I think so, there was a plan which involves keeping the aviation / flying operation going.

Yep.

No more than 160 dwellings shall be occupied until completion of all of the Hangar 3 repairs as outlined in the cost plan and Listed Building Consent.

“For each stage of the repairs, an architect’s certificate of practical completion of the approved works shall be submitted to the local planning authority (Wiltshire Council).”

What’s the bets that the airfield operator now goes to the High Court (or Wiltshire Council) to argue that there nothing left to repair.

Hope all is well for 1010 (City of Salisbury) Sqn who are based at the ARC immediately adjacent the hanger which has gone up (under/behind the smoke plume in the photo above)

Yeah, the Squadron building is safely away from the fire.
