I appreciate there are probably topics already on this, however most will be out of date by now!
Has anyone got any handy tips for OIC?

Attitude is key. Go there with a willingness to learn and share ideas. The staff team there are fantastic when it comes to instructing. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, it’s what you are there for!
You will meet people from all over the country and of differing levels of experience. Certain students will be good at some things and some not so good. Help each other out and the ride becomes easier for all concerned. Get as much practice in drill, uniform upkeep, instructing cadets in the classroom and learn the SMEAC-EAC briefing technique before you go. The better prepared you are in some areas means that you can concentrate your learning in other aspects e.g. If you are good at drill then you can spend more time working on your group presentation whilst you are there.
You may get an opportunity to meet Comdt AC, so if you have any particular concerns about the ACO at a higher level then this is the place to ask.
It’s a great week so enjoy it!
Don’t get drunk and vomit in the ante room.
This is worth a look - appreciate it is USAF but the concepts are the same: http://www.au.af.mil/au/awc/awcgate/au/smith.pdf

Yes - enjoy it! It is privilege and the best job in the ACO. And the worst.
When they tell you to relax and let your hair down in the evening and that you’re not being watched, don’t believe a bloody word of it. Your behaviour WILL be monitored. By all means have a few drinks, but don’t get hammered.
Thanks guys so far!

I really enjoyed OIC. It’s a great chance to meet new people, share experiences and ask questions that you have.
tip: stand your round in the bar. Do the “homework” early. Take a notepad and pen and use them. Help others with uniform/drill where you can. Be receptive and go with an open mind and a willingness to learn.
And don’t wear a coat in the bar. And if you do wear a coat in the bar, don’t then mistake the tables in the bar, or any of the other furniture, for a cloakroom.
As an aside, which Mess do you stay in for the OIC?
