OIC/SSIC by Oct 1st

just read a email distributed by our Wing stating all staff still to complete their OIC/SSIC must have a course booke dby October 1st or their appointment will be withdrawn

i am under the assumption a staff member has 12 months from appointment (board interview) to get to Cranwell…why the sudden rush for people to be booked up?

changes to OIC/SSIC? ATF?

what is confusing to me is who it has come from - Media & Marketing Officer (MMO) at HQAC, seems to be the wrong office to be kicking up a fuss about staff getting trained?

I am pretty sure it is 12 months unless it has changed very recently??

Sounds like someone just sent an eamil out with out thinking about it before hand…

Sounds very odd. What was the distribution chain?

They are actively looking to cull people who keep putting it off. I heard of one person who has been renewed and still not done OIC!

I think that it’s just to ensure people actually do it. No real rush as most people will book it anyway.

ah ok i can understand that.

but why that office? or is it a misleading title?

as for similiar stories i have heard of a Sgt who kept putting off their course (dropping out last minute for whatever reason) that after four years and due for FS they got binned and now a CI

Are you actually reading an email or repeating heresay?

an email. I received it too.

What’s the routing?

This is atypically the wrong way.

Have they not ascertained why, if as it suggests, people haven’t been within the 12 months. This a conversation between said individuals and their CO and or WSO. HQAC will or should know who the people are ad advise said Wings, although the message would strongly suggest otherwise. I can’t think of one Sqn Cdr who with newbie Officer or SNCO who isn’t on their case to get it sorted ASAP. Although I have known our WHQ to not do anything when requested for 2 weeks or on one occasion book the wrong week, as it’s only WHQ that can book places. TBH it’s probably a 5 minute job, that you could do on a parade night and one less thing for WHQ staff to do, although there is probably some mind-numbing CS/MoD rationale why we can’t do it.

If there are genuine reasons as to why it hasn’t been done ATF suck it in (it is only a hobby, unless I missed the email stating it isn’t anymore) and if not then the appropriate advice with potential outcome for non-compliance advised.

That doesn’t make any sense. I’m betting there was more to the email which was trimmed at some point prior to you getting it. Perhaps it was an exec round-up and some people thought that latter part was relevant to a wider audience. What next, Chief if Staff telling us about Risk assessments and His Helf n Safetyness lamenting about child, protection.

GHE - How dare you say this is only a hobby!! It should be your whole life taking precedence above all your professional and family concerns!

Sorry … what was I thinking
