i am in the last 12 months of preparation for OASC for a vrt commission again after attending 12 months ago. What are the chances of passing second time around?
Is it easier?

Why would it be “easier”? OASC is a is a process which maintains a consistency mostly, and the only variable is the people doing the marking. The proces and the training they get remains the same largely.
If you are going to OASC, the only way to make it eaier is training on your part, research and preparation.
The process itself won’t be any easier mentally, but at least you will know what to expect and therefore, you should be able to prepare yourself that much better this time round. Pay attention to the points that were raised in your earlier debriefing letter, that’s if you got to see it and we’re actually debriefed; and if you didn’t get a debrief last time, you should have. Make sure you ask your WSO for the letter. Most of all, don’t go there with the attitude or overly comment that ‘you’ve done it before’, you didn’t pass last time for a reason!
Good luck!
The test will not be easier, but hopefully you will have taken feedback on from round 1 and therefore you will now be better…
Be true to yourself and don’t try to become a clone. We’ll have enough of them in the years to come.
Only you will know that.
I’m not sure why you’ve asked that question. As has been said, you should have had a debrief telling you where you went wrong and detailing the areas you need to concentrate on for the future. Therefore, if you have had such a debrief and if you have taken on board where you have to improve and subsequently done something about it, then hopefully, you’ll be feeling far more confident in having a second go.
I notice from another thread that you’ve posted in, that you weren’t too complimentary about a couple of ‘gobby females’. Gobby they may have been but you said that they passed so they must have done something right. As they were ‘gobby’ when (I assume) you were a team member, did you come across as irritated to the DS or did you just suck it up and crack on with what you were being told to do? If you were clearly annoyed with them and if you didn’t do as you were tasked, then the DS would have marked you down for that and it could have contributed to your failing first time round. When the time arrives for you to take the lead, that’s YOUR opportunity to shine, and its up to you to make the most of it.
Maintain a positive attitude and approach, do your best and above all, be yourself. Good luck.
One of the lads on my OASC Board was resitting after a 12 month deferral. He felt that they were much harder on him second time round, particularly in the interview. So much so that he left Cranwell assuming it was going to be another deferral. Happy to say he did pass, but don’t expect them to go any easier on you. Remember the boarding officers will have notes on you from your last visit and will be expecting some improvement in the areas highlighted.
I think that as long as you make some positive contribution in the group exercises/discussion, formulate a basic plan in the individual planning ex and present it confidently, be a team player and show some leadership potential in the hanger and be confident, knowledgable and enthusiastic in the interview you will be fine.
I still cringe when I think about the awful joke I told at the end of my interview. Can’t have been that bad though as one of the boarding officers pulled me aside afterwards and asked if I had ever considered applying for a Regular Commission.
Drop me a PM if you want to talk anything through.
