I need to train and assess cadets on the No.8 weapon at my squadron. We don’t hold weapons at the squadron so will need to transport them. Unfortunately no one else in my area is DGA trained so this is proving difficult. I know I can transport NSWs without an other staff member and therefore can conduct training but am I allowed to WHT cadets using 0.22" NSW BSA weapons (that look and work almost identically) or does the test have to be done with No.8 service weapons? Or can anyone advise on where I would find this information out?
My Wing Shooting Officer is away for the next month so can’t ask him and the staff in my area dont seem to know.
If you are only transporting the weapons then you don’t need DGA trained staff, that only kicks in for ammunition. You will still require another staff member to escort and you both need to be CTC cleared.
Indeed it would be easier and I have tried this however the Commanding Officer of the unit holding the weapons is not being accomodating in his approach and ‘cannot afford’ to lease out one of his training rooms for the night and there are few other squadrons near by (> 1 hour travel each way )
Again, thank you all for your replies and advice regarding transport
Steve - Unfortunately not, I work shifts around my own squadron parade nights as it is and my the weekend weapons training I run is already fully booked for the year.
Still struggling to get available CTC cleared staff though, any suggestions on the use of NSW’s or where I can go to look for this info?
I’ve no reference for it but my understanding is that training must be on the No8 and the No8 WHT passed - we are granted permission to use .22 NSW if a No8WHT is held. It is not reciprocal.
