Finally, a useful Duolingo lesson!
As @Victor_Zulu said - ask your squadron staff to contact your Region Road Marching Officer.
Alternatively, depending on how close you live or how easily you can get transport to a neighbouring Wing, you could ask your squadron staff to contact the WRMO of a neighbouring Wing, to ask if you and any fellow cadets could join them?
Unfortunately, you’re likely to have missed the opportunity of joining in with a team at Cosford this year, as entries closed today - and spaces for this year’s Nijmegen march are like hens teeth - but, there is still the RAFWARM Winter March at Sandbach this autumn.
On the other hand… assuming you’re under 18… if you can find someone over 18 to accompany and walk with you… there’s nothing to stop you from entering this year’s Nijmegen March as an individual.
Registration is open now for those people that have completed at least one Nijmegen before - registration for first timers opens on the 4th March.
On the unlikely chance that anyone interested, hadn’t already noticed…
This year’s Nijmegen March sold out to first time entrants in under 38 minutes. Lots of unhappy people that were hoping to get in.
Registration opened officially at 0900 our time, but like many others I logged on beforehand.
When the portal opened, I was 11,123 in the queue… chasing one of just under 8,000 spaces.
Lots of chatter on the Dutch FB pages saying more needs to be done to get new participants involved to protect the longevity of the festival.
There have been lots of changes to the registration process this year on the civvy side - with more changes ahead planned for start times and groups.
Unlike in previous years, if you wanted to withdraw once winning a start place, from this year you will be able to transfer your ticket to another person.
The process has just been announced on the 4Daagse website - and the transfer portal will be available from Monday 11th March
Sounds like a good way to end up with people scalping and then selling…
As much as I hate the London Marathon ballot system, they should probably start doing (something like) a London Marathon ballot system.
When I saw that returners had priority, it really didn’t sit right with me. I fully understand wanting to rewards those showing loyality to the event but doing so at the expense of those who haven’t had the opportunity to even try doesn’t feel like the right way to go about it.
Just run two ballots? One for those who have been before, and one who new-commers? Then you can choose how many of each you want, then run the ballot.
A ballot system is generally better for these sort of things. I mean, look at the mess Glastonbury gets into every year… A ballot there would be a much better idea.
Not possible - at least so far… transfer process is only possible via the 4Daagse system.
You only pay what the “seller” paid - if the seller paid for a certificate, you’re paying for the certificate; if the seller got a discount before they’re members if the KVBN you get that same discount… but both the seller and the buyer pay a 5% commission to the 4Daagse website.
You cannot just change the name on a ticket - when you arrive at Nijmegen to collect your wrist band, you need to prove your name with your passport.
Also - I don’t know why the first registration period has to be SO long - other then I suppose when trying this new system they had to be sure there was plenty of spare time in case the system crashed.
I think generally the organisers are looking at ALL aspects - but much like another organisation… those at the top have neither thought everything through to the very end, or bothered to communicate all the new steps to everyone from day 1
Has everyone else heard that the standalone “Nijmegen” badge has now been scrapped, in favour of awarding the “Gold Road Marching” badge?
It’s not a concern for me personally, but I also wasn’t aware until very recently.
It has, cost saving exercise to rationalise the number of badges. This year only 82 badges will be needed and only if all cadets finish. When the triangular Nijmegen badge came in they would need somewhere in the region of 500 a year for the cadets who would finish.
Surely they should just get rid of the Gold “Road Marching” badge and keep the Gold “Nijmegen” badge seeing as they virtually killed off PTCs idea for regional 4 days events
Dodentocht and a few others are still gold events.
I think if they’re going to scrap a badge, they’ve actually got it the right way around.
Pretty sure this is strangely classed as Silver
It’s gold in the ACROMATIs, but the training hub dashboard doesn’t display correctly.
Ahh for some reason i thought Dodentotcht was Silver (or was it and now its been promoted to gold?)
Always been gold, but likely a consequence of the dashboard showing it as silver.
Izjer, Cadet Forces March (full) & Dodentocht (and now Nijmegen) are eligible for Gold (yes, I’ve just reopened the ACROMATIs).
WARMA long, Waendel, Garelochead, Langport, Lyneham, Cadet Forces March (2 day) & Pathfinder are all currently listed as Silver.
That was when Gold was only for the Nijmegen March, 80km 2 day marches were bronze and there was not a blue badge.
On this note, does anyone have a Nijmegen Badge they’re willing to Sell
Got issued with the Gold badge by the RRMO, but the Green and gold is still in Regulation so worth a shot
I am not sending you this link.
wow, a link just appeared, how strange
