I particularly like the way it recognises that lieutenancy areas are not counties.

Two of my fantastic people on that list.

They make volunteering an absolute joy and privilege.

Where’s that damn postman!

Looking this year cadet service is mainly BEMs (?)

This is just a rough look  We’ll done to all those who’ve been awarded.

Interesting that a sqn ldr has received a BEM! I didn’t think that was possible.

I was going to say the same thing. It was put out that only NCOs were eligible for the BEM, so it will be interesting to hear how that’s changed as it opens up a lot of potential awards if it has.

Quick Look on bader & the current OC is not the same person.

Could it be a nominated NCO/WO who is then commissioned & then to sector Cdr?

Easily possible on timescale lags…

2Lt for the ACF too - there must have been a change to the rules.

Since December 1918, the honour has been divided into civil and military divisions in a similar way to the Order of the British Empire itself. While recipients are not members of the Order, the medal is affiliated to it.[2]

You could argue that Officers/uniformed CFAV are Civvi and/or Military if it helps you apply/get one.

Having a google on the BEM (not the most reliable I know) and the bit that came back is that the BEM is for “hands on” community work at a local level.

so it maybe that traditionally officers couldn’t receive the BEM as by definition they weren’t hands on.

However this has changed due to the nature of volunteering & particularly with the staffing issues cadet forces officers are becoming more hands on.

Read point 4 of this brief from June last year:

He has been an officer and OC for quite a long time and I believe moved to a sector Commander role at some point in 2025.

Edit to add: Just had a look on their squadron Facebook page which mentions he was OC for 17 years and moved to Wing Training Officer

So our small allocation of MBEs appears to have been downgraded to BEM level.

VoV?

Maybe not - RAFAC kinda feels like in reset phase so there may not be the opportunities recently for people to reach the acquired level meriting an MBE.

A national gong (be it OBE, MBE or BEM) is still a significant recognition which can be worn on uniform with pride so let’s not detract from that - it could well be the standard has raised & RAFAC hasn’t adapted to the changing times.

I can think of at least one person who’d be very deserving of an MBE!
