New Smoking and Drinking Policy

So that’s all the CWO’s no longer invited to Wing Dinners then.

Just discharge on the Friday then reinstate on Monday with them attending as a guest.

They just won’t get continuity of service for CFM.

Whilst I fully agree with the thinking behind the policy, surely this is one where we should be counting staff cadets as staff and not cadets

No longer required

Yeah, I have no issue being sober at a Squadron event with all the 12 and 13 year olds present.

But I object to not being able to invite my CWO who runs a chunk of my AT programme to a Staff dinner because no one would be able to have a beer in their presence. (I already objected to the idea that under the old policy they couldn’t have a drink).

Im in the camp of agreeing with the policy, most Sqn Dinners (i refuse to call them dining in, as most sqns dont dine people in annually) ive been too. I have left early feeling uncomfortable with the state some CFAVs get into around Cadets. Its embarrasing.

But also appreciate the fact it calls out that if you are off duty, cadets have the supervisory ratio sorted and away from the Cadets, one can enjoy a beverage, i.e. on camp. As long as you are sensible of course.

I’ll it brings us into line with the sea & army cadets.

It probably kills off the debauchery that went on at JL graduation dinner (some of which was in front of CAC so didn’t exactly endear us)

Will etiquette still dictate that the Pepsi is passed to the left for the royal toast?

You will not use Pepsi. :rage:

The correct protocol on such situations is neat vimto! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hey I rarely drink but…

It also kills the Sqn dinner with parents etc
Who is going to pay a substantial amount per head in a local hotel/event venue, plus being asked to dress ‘accordingly’ and stay for a disco etc and not be allowed to drink?
Also once we tell venues they can not sell any one attending event alcohol they are not going to welcome us with open arms as they won’t be making any money - they would rather give the date to someone else

Plus if the venue has bar facilities who is going to police its use - I am not carrying the can for that.

Back to fish and chips on the sqn and hand out any trophies there

Thats one uniform I can sell as I wont be needing it anymore

How do you do the loyal toast with cadets?

We’ve used Non-alcoholic red wine before, or a Shloor (or however its written, a fizzy fruit drink).

The cadets get the experience, with zero alcohol.

I’ve used ribena before

You treat someone over 18 running a major part of your programme as an adult yet the Cranditz headsheds treat them as children. Utter madness.

at this rate the entire Cadet Experience will be synthetic…

No risk, in line with policy…

… and no fun

How did any of us survive the 70s and 80s

I’ve said it before, and no doubt i’ll say it again, the new motto should be … “When the fun starts, STOP!”

I completly agree with the policy.
Bar one exception.
Dining in Nights… passing the port, having a decent venue and socialising has never been an issue before.

Now that ls all gone.

Everyother time 100% agree.

Dining in night.
As long as there were sober cfavs… it was all ok.

Youll probably find a fairly large % ignored that sober bit

I have found it a nightmare in the past trying to get some staff to stick to the rules. Internal discipline amongst some staff is quite awful so I can understand HQs mindset.

You would need to get HQ confident that we will be complying & not going rogue particularly in the area of safeguarding.

Not suggesting we have SIA registered bouncers but that could be one mitigation.

Many, many moons ago, I realised I was no longer capable of imbibing heartily without writing-off the entire weekend.

I’ve perfected the art of G&T, followed by two non-alcoholic G&Ts, and I can tell you it’s great. I recently bought the mess my own bottles from the supermarket and they paid me back so there was a valid non-alcoholic option behind the bar ahead of a function.

So I don’t have to go the night drinking an excessive quantity of soft drinks or water, but I barely drink 3 alcoholic units over the course of a very long evening.

#OldManTips : Non-alcoholic Prosecco can also be very nice.

In our Wing, we also had to document who was going to be sober, not just that someone was. We were told off for not writing the names even when some CFAVs (myself included) don’t drink.
