Dose anyone know when under 18 cadets will start to get there new Rnaks slides (Also are cadets getting general rank slides)
The new yellow-band āStaff Cadetā slides for O18 are starting to come through - all staff cadets at my squadron have them.
Weāve even got a couple of the flight staff cadet variety as well.
Yes. IIRC this one isnāt for a while yet, though (I forget where I read this).
Itās only the O18 rank slides that changed. Under 18 staying the same
Have the blue ones been binned off?
Ahhh yeah, being the same colour as FSC cadets I completely disregarded them!
But the answer is not a clue.
So they havenāt been binned off? Am super confused now ![]()

But but but youāre the guy! The uniform guy! The guy that deals with all the regs for uniform.
Not the logistics of it though!
the blue stripe cadet ones you are referring to will be being produced from september this year and that start to go out a bit after that
I know this plan had been in for a while and there no changing it but anyone in RAFAC think about it just costing more when they was no issue with the ones currently in use ![]()
Thereās some argument as to safeguarding, because all other cadet forces clearly denote their rank slides with āCADETā
My argument has always been that there is no stage in a cadets career where they could be mistaken for an Adult member of the RAF or a CFAV, minor exception when I met this 17yo Viking cadet Cpl who looked about 30
1 in however many
I suppose itās a really clear indicator that is consistently worn in all modes of uniform, and therefore that makes it a good idea.
Iād have simplified it a bit so it doesnāt invite extra questions, but a bit olā āAIR CADETā would make it incredibly clear to everyone.
I guess so ![]()
Iāve recently seen SM images of a FSC sgt with a beard. The combination of the eagles above his stripes and the beard make him easily mistakable for NCA in phase 2 training.
Same Iāve seen that too looks a bit off maybe just got to get use to it ![]()
an issue only created by these Rank changes
under the old system he would have worn Sgt
Yes, but RAFP also wear cpl rank straight out of phase 2 training: so there are also under 20-year-old regular cpls who cadets could also readily be mistaken for.
Well⦠The RAF Police wear a white hat and have a different style of rank slide so not really ![]()
But I do understand weāre your coming from and to be honest I think itāsore of it being change and people donāt like change.
