Wow. That is a beast of a risk assessment. And I cannot believe it got signed off!!!

Looks like another case of RAF heavy handedness being imposed on squadrons and the volunteer without due consideration to how squadrons operate.

What is the point of referencing policy that has not been written yet. XXXXXX INSERT REFERENCE HERE.
18 pages. If this is the risk assessment for transport by risk assessment for making a cup of coffee is way to short. Need to add things about e-coli, legionaires disease and the risk of buying Tesco own brand coffee.

I thought qualified first aide rob the vehicle in case someone gets injured was a bit surreal. I got bored reading it too.

The worst thing about this is that it’s digital, so doesn’t even have the benefit of being soft, strong and thoroughly absorbent.

Seriously, it made me angry reading it. Some of the control measures bear no resemblance to the risk. Some of the risks are idiotic and unrealistic. And if you choose to use it (rather than be sensible and write a decent one) you can’t take anyone in any vehicle without it having a fire extinguisher.

How does having business insurance reduce any risk involved when travelling? Do you really need to state not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol?

Gahhh I haven’t even looked at it for a few days and I’m still angry!

“Escorting passengers go and from the vehicle” Why? My Cadets get in and out of vehicles all the time without hurling themselves under the wheels so why do I have hold their hand like they are a 5 year old who can’t be trusted or worse a Squaddie!

Interestingly enough, as the RA says “draft” then all we have to do is follow the IBN which states that we need a specific risk assessment for every vehicle type.

(Does that mean DVLA category? Seat numbers? Do we need an RA for a 1.8 Focus and a different one for the ST?)

Yes. Your risk of becoming a chav increases exponentially in an ST.

Obviously they have done a risk assessment for Dial-a-ride, not Air Cadets!!

I’ve not read it, but you know I can see people’s personal car mileage dropping quite a bit, if we have to play HQAC silly sods for personal vehicles, more than MOT, tax and insurance. Which is all my company need to see.

People could just say, you want me there you provide the transport from start to finish as my vehicle is staying at home or parked up until I return to go home. Your move!

HQAC really don’t have a clue. You do have to wonder if they’re children did anything that required them jumping into Janet or John’s parents’ cars to get somewhere, as they were too busy telling us we what we can and can’t do and the forms we need to do it.

Its very long and boring, but some of it is as others have said protecting the CoC - the bit about getting in/out of minibuses is a direct result of MOD paying out for someone tripping over a seatbelt fitting not returned to its position, therefore losing footing as coming out of the minibus - her words: no-one showed me how to get in/out of the minibus… crazy I know…

Nobody has shown be how to get out of any form of mechanical transport in all of my life. I just sort of picked it up.
