New Gold leadership course 2025

So the weekly brief says that the new Gold leadership course is now open for applications from cadets and CFAV! There will be 60 places for cadets.

Anyone got any information on what’s planned for this? Is it JL style, or closer to ACLC?

It’s a single week, and qualifies for the ILM L3.

Sounds like ACLC plus, and JL massively minus.

That was my feeling too.

Fairly certain ILM as an organisation is defunct

My mistake. Google has corrected me.

Reach out to Flt Lt Sturgeon she will happily talk about it  They lurkes here so may pop their head up and provide more insights

I was sort of hoping their might be an admin order or some sort of overview document :stuck_out_tongue:

There may be something on the SMS application? But I don’t currently have access, only sharepoint, email etc

Just a Warning Order on there at the moment

Just renamed as The Institute of Leadership

Yet more devaluation of management.

As ever, something put on Cadet Portal but nothing out to staff; and before anyone says, not everyone reads the Weekly missive.

Have you noticed it’s now Wednesday, getting later in the week, soon they will be a whole week behind!!

Even having read the weekly brief, there’s no info there as to what this course entails. Just that applications are open.

Interesting - fully support idea - but camp applications are already in for most Wings and cadets and staff might have booked holidays.

Plus Silver Leadership courses are rare beasts!

There’s still the Chartered Management Institute. When offered the choice of ILM or CMI quals for courses, I’ve always opted for the latter (based on the simple logic that a qual from chartered institute is better than one that isn’t).

I was being a bit facetious, but I do sometimes feel that the organisation hypes up leadership, and devalues management. They are different skills.

This is a camp for 60 cadets, 10 per region, people having bid for other activities isn’t going to cause this to fail.

Locally we’ve had a staff call for annual camp, but no cadet bids requested yet, I think we are struggling to generate the staffing needed.

Do you support your wing with running them? If you want to see more why not work with wing staff to deliver?

I’ve offered.

This,

my Wing has had 1 since the start of 2023 i think. and there were only 8 people on it

I sympathise with wing staff, rallying volunteers to support their activities is difficult, but it’s the SME’s job to get these things going.

If squadron staff are already expected to deliver at minimum blue level courses, sometimes bronze, I think it’s a little unfair to point the finger at them for wing-led courses being unsuccessful.

How many times have we had this before??
