BBC News - Senior general appointed new Royal Navy chief
Thoughts on a bootneck being the new 1SL/CNS? Also quite surprised they chose him given the recent UKSF headlines linked to him…

Makes you wonder how bad the allegations against the last one are, if this is an improvement…
Probably so far down the line with the appointment that to not announce it would be tantamount to admitting the stories are true.
I feel like it’s quite telling that amidst all the Rear Echelon stumbles that have led to Russias failure in Ukraine, and R&R issue in our own armed forces, all 3 services have had new chiefs
2023: RAF breaks trend and appoints a non-pilot
2024: Army doubles down, goes from LI officer to SF/Guards officer
2025: RN goes for SF/RM officer
Pulled a Glen Haughton,
slept with a juniors wife
There’s some slightly more murdery allegations against the good General though
I said at unit its either I’ll health or he’s knocking boots with someone he shouldn’t.
Like a certain former CAC by all accounts.
Leave good old dawny out of it!
Bringing this slightly back on track.
Placing a marine in charge feels a bit more war-orientated, more aggressive than defensive. I can’t explain it, but that’s where my gut is sitting.
Marines are our Amphibious & Arctic warfare machine
I can’t think of many opportunities where a beach landing could be deffensive…
Keeping German Towels away at dawn!
It’ll be weird (presuming Jenkins outlasts Radakins term as CDS, and there is a non-Naval replacement) not to have any RN officer on the chiefs of staff committee.
I know RM is technically RN, but there’s a reason they’re treated like a separate entity rather than the Royal Navy Regiment…
Feel like it might make more sense to raise CGRM to an “associate” member of the chiefs of staff committee, if more representation is desired
I can’t think of anything going on in the world that might lead us to fighting in arctic conditions, say against the Russians in Norway like we used to plan. Oh, wait…
You wait until it’s the rest of NATO fighting the yanks in Greenland and Canada
Not too worried about them, they are a bit, erm, rubbish.
Perhaps there’s a plan for a RM CDS?
First 617 Sqn, then the world.
RM had a VCDS fairly recently: Gordon Messenger
And Gwyn Jenkins himself…
Why do you think it’s on their cap badge…
Gwyn has been getting a lot of high profile jobs, ones that are traditionally held by officers of the 3 services
although I’m not sure if 1SL/CNS is a requirement for CDS, especially seeing as Jenkins was/is CGRM and was VCDS
