New Cadet Rankslides

The FSC seems a bit redundant on the tapes. It’s like the old saying with JLs; How do you know someone’s done JL? They’ll tell you straight away!

I think it shluld just be cadet.

The flying suit and ego will let you know theyre a FSC

Yep, ‘Cadet’ and ‘Staff Cadet’ in the same style as we have staff cadet tapes already.

Correct. The logistics instruction suggests 2FTS will be responsible for this.

Indeed. KISS, if you have to explain it then it is not doing its job.

The important thing is telling the world that they are cadets, not that they are over 18 cadet or under 18 cadets or over 18 flight staff cadets or under 18 flight staff cadets. Cadets.
This has been over thought and over completed.

Over priced, overspent, and the opinion of those that have to deal with it overlooked.

…and the man responsible for breaking everything and fixing nothing is now somewhere over the fence somewhere else, not over bothered by his actions or their consequences.

I suspect Special K didn’t make a decision to introduce these but was told to by higher authority. The colour selection is questionable but probably selected to be visible from distance to enable the easy identification and differentiation of regulars and cadets.

From a slightly more obscure note, and purely a personal observation, shouldn’t the O18 FSC slides say Staff Flight Staff Cadet?

Flight staff staff cadet, surely.

Flight Staff^2 Cadet?

Does the role of a FSC change after their 18th birthday? I was under the impression that all FSCs need DBS, regardless of age, and so I question the need for different colours, let alone titles.

In the CCF sections that already have cadet rank slides, do the colours change on the cadet’s 18th birthday?

As it’s unofficial & private purchase I don’t think there is a standard way of doing it.

Good point. I have “STAFF CADET” ACF style rank slides on some of those sites, in yellow rather than the usual red. I didn’t even think they had staff cadets?

They didn’t , then they did it to be like the ATC, realised it didn’t work so don’t again.

Which is why there is probably a push from on high for the ATC to guillotine at 18.

Personally, I don’t like the idea of kicking cadets out part way through their final school year. I’d favour waiting until they leave for uni or start work.

It’s discussed on another thread but school leaving age is probably the best guide.

If end of school year could be made to work that would he ideal.

Scouts have to leave on their 18th and it can be pretty harsh.

If I remember rightly the SA uses only birthdays for age boundaries, and at age 18, being legaly an adult they move to the adult/leader side of the organisation. I don’t believe this to be harsh, just moving into adulthood.

What we have is a mess where in a single intake goverened by school year individuals joining at the minima for those young persons can be nearly a year different in ages. This in a way disadvanteges the older by reducing how long they may be a cadet; I believe that we need to go back to a simple age for joining as we have gone to simple ages for changing serive at the top end.

Right, back to thread subject!

Why does this make me think of a famous comment by Danny Dyer about a certain politician who was very familiar with pigs?

Are you suggesting TK has “got his trotters up”?

This is one of my bug bares - they did a huge public poll to see what we wanted - then ignored it completely. RAFAC came out as the top request - instead we went with ‘oh my goodness, good god no, we are not in any way connected with the military’
