New appointment for RAFAC Senior Volunteer

It looks like congratulations are in order for @Ben_Wakefield who’s been chosen to succeed Andy Pass as the RAFAC senior volunteer.

Very happy for you Ben. Hopefully the effort and enthusiasm you’ve shown towards the VSDT will pass over into this role too.

I’m sadly leaving the organisation soon, so won’t get to see what you bring, but I’m sure it’ll be great.

We’ve got lots of amazing volunteers in RAFAC and Ben is one of the best. A good choice and I’m looking forward to seeing the impact he makes.

I hope he’s going to pass on some of his other responsibilities to others, he’s a busy bee and wouldn’t want to see him take on too much.

Thank you all for your kind comments, it is a real privilege to be taking on the role and I look forward to representing volunteers across the organisation.

Whilst some details are to be worked out, I will of course be relinquishing some of my other responsibilities, I’m not sure where I would find the time from otherwise!

I am certain the Gp Capt Wakefield will bring a great deal to the role - I’ve seen some of his work first hand and it’s always with a smile and positive. I never heard or saw much from Pass, visibility is important - no social media updates for over 18 months for example.

A point of correction, Gp Capt Pass was not the first CFAV to be promoted to that rank as RAFAC claim on their website. Bill Walker was a Groupie in the VR(T) : Air Cadet of 69 years helps organisation celebrate its 70th birthday - GOV.UK

That’s a really interesting read. It’s a shame it doesn’t detail what gp capt post he filled. Comdt 2FTS?

I did OIC with Ben many years ago.

I’ve left the organisation now, the way RAFAC treats its volunteers is something I want no part of.

But if anyone can do a good job in this role, it’s Ben.

Best of luck @Ben_Wakefield

So i was wondering exactly bens new post as senior volunteer roles that includes exactly?
What things will he have control of and most importantly have the power to make changes on?
Whata other main roles and responsibilities is he in charge of ?

I’ll be running a series of engagement activities across the organisation in due course to share key areas of focus and I’m sure you can appreciate that they’ll come out through official communication channels.

The advert for the role included a high level overview including some terms of reference and this can still be seen on Bader SharePoint.

I’ll share more detail through official channels in due course.

I can’t say i have ever heard of your predecessor prior to your appointment to be honest. Which is why i was asking in where does your role remit involve exactly is in cadet training etc and how will it inpact us at squadron level. We have many issues we struggle to do in our wing and get shut down all the time and people are just too afraid to speak up which is a such a shame.
