National Cadets Week

Just seen a letter posted on Facebook from Adam Thompson MP regarding the idea of setting up a National Cadets Week.

What do you think about the idea?

Anything that casts a spotlight and helps with recruitment can’t be a bad thing - but the caveat is we need the pipeline in place to quickly and efficiently capitalise on the interest it generates.

and have the activities in place for these new cadets
Blue PTS for the majority of the subjects on the squadron.
Flying, gliding and AGS 6-12 months down the road
Summer camps, training weekends to keep interest
Silver and gold PTS 2-3 years down the road
Staff recruitment sorted
DBS, BPSS in weeks not months
New AVIP process in place
parade on units with supervision to learn the ropes

& what do we have in place for the new staff to get them up & running?

National cadets week shouldn’t really be directly around cadet recruitment but focused on adults with the emphasis on the activities that the CFAVs help to support & deliver.

Wouldn’t a dedicated day during the week building up to Armed Forces Day make more sense, like Reserves Day (formerly known as ‘Uniform to Work Day’)?

Both are outside of RAFAC CoC control.

Both are initially at the hands of the person to get them completed, then it down to outsider to complete their element.

Down to Wings to sort, we have regular sector/Wing training weekends, which train in most cases up to silver PTS.

Summer camps are a waste of time; getting smaller and less regular, cadets getting less out of them.

I think there is still a place for summer camps in the RAFAC. Being on an RAF station is still a great experience for our cadets.

This I would not disagree with. RAF stations are less able to support and engage with the cadets that stay on the camps for many reasons.
