hi! so i have blue music because ive achieved a grade 3+ standard in Piano (outside of cadets - im aware piano is not used in band) my squadron is bringing in bell lyres soon.
can i just go straight to wing band to work towards my bronze or will i have to complete the same blue badge process for the bell lyre before i can work on bronze?
As you have a Blue Musician badge, you can now apply to attend Wing & Region Music Events/Camps. However, they will ask you to state what instrument you can play to what standard. As they likely won’t have a piano available at a Wing or Region Music Camp, and you can’t realistically transport one there, it is unlikely that they will be able to utilise you with that instrument.
You shouldn’t have to go through the same Blue Badge process with the Bell Lyre (as you already have the Blue Badge), however, until you are deemed to be able to play that (or another instrument that is played in a Wing/Region band to a Grade 3 Standard), there probably isn’t much point in you attending.
I would check with your wing band their process.
I wouldn’t say there’s necessarily a case of no experience= don’t bother, especially because with piano background as the skills are transferable.
They might have a turn up and try policy or they might hold specific newbie days.
