Mine says Shirt
. * .
not a jacket
Well, the original pre-PCS ones (such as mine) were CS95 combat ‘jackets’ in MTP (but we all knew them as shirts: just like we call ‘field jackets’ smocks and ‘jerseys heavy wool’ jumpers).
can I start wearing my barrack shirt untucked then?
I’m being facetious obviously, but the PCS kit looks smarter untucked, no horrible folds in the back
and yes that means sacrificing our precious chrome buckles , but theyre a camp item anyway, keep it for the camp equipment, blues and Barrack shirts
Or for something a tad classier we could follow the Foot Guard’s lead
That type of thing isn’t unique to the guards.
Back in the ‘90s (before GPJs) it used to be common practise to wear a combat jacket over the No. 2 working blue uniform.
AND VISIBLE STABLE BELTS
Get WOs Subramaniam and Hall in here right this instant
We’ve covered the vagaries of CS95, battle dress and stable belts before I’m sure
Very 1980s
The shot of the rear / waist of the trousers looks a bit “PVC tight”.
I’m sure that’s just the lighting.
God I hope so
I’ve already broken one pair of combats by squatting to quick, that would make it a regular occurrence
There is a greater array of sizes, which is good. Our CAA has begged us to not order the 150cm shirts though, as apparently they cost £80 each. Obviously whoever negotiated the contract for that is a complete idiot.
Can confirm the trousers are a downgrade in the pockets department. The weird elastic on the leg pockets looks naff and the button has been made smaller, meaning of you’re wearing gloves it’s hard to open.
The hip pockets being made jeans style is irritating too. Revenge of the RSM for the fleecy smock pocket?
So I’ve just got my set of MTP23 and here’s my initial thoughts
Trousers:
They are a nightmare to iron. The side leg pockets are pleated (as mentioned above) and elasticated at the top along with a single button. I can see the SWO having a field day on scruffy trousers. Also the knee area isn’t straight cut, it’s pleated. Probably to aid kneeling but a total PITA to iron. I don’t use the hip or rear pockets so not really bothered about that. In MTP I wear 80/84/100. The new ones are 80/90/100 (i think) and the fit is ‘snug’.
Shirts:
I wear a 170/88 in MTP and originally ordered 170/95 in MTP23 as it states they are a little smaller in fit so to order the next size up to which I did. When they arrived they were absolutely HUGE so I ordered 2 sizes smaller (170/85). When the replacements arrived, they were the same size I originally ordered and I was about to through a hissy fit but I tried them on anyway and the fit is perfect. Not sure what happened with sizing on the original shirts but I’m assuming incorrectly labelled. My advice is to try everything on first if you can. I like the fit though. Much better than the older MTP and because of this I think it would still look smart when untucked but I suppose it depends on your build. Back of the shirts have pleats to allow for movement.
Arm pockets now have size zips which could be useful and I’m hoping that the blanking plates are the same size as the older MTP so I can swap my TRF over rather than having to sew on another. I think I’ll probably ditch the shoulder pads as I’ve no intention of carrying a 60lb Bergan any time soon. Chest pockets are the same as previous.
I’m tempted to get a couple of barrack shirts as we can wear these now.
Not really MTP23 but Im not a lover of the AKU boots with MTP. The boots themselves are great however the look with the trousers is scruffy. The amount of times I see folk wearing AKUs with MTP and I can see their socks is just wrong IMO. I think I’ll try and get a set of high leg AKUs but until then I think I’ll stick with my Altbergs.
I tried to order an MTP23 smock but the order was cancelled, most probably none available as of yet.
Not like we are ever going to get them anyway. Cadets are not even issued MTPs with only option for them to purchase unless you’re at a squadron lucky enough to have stock of MTP.
