I’d very much like to get back into motorcyles, the combined factors of civilian day-job and family requirements have pushed that off the list at present.
I’ll be interested in reading the responses you get here.
The rules regarding sizes of bikes, as aligned to age/experience, have all been tightened this year (I believe).
As for dress- I’d say leathers then change at the squadron (even if you’re on quite a small bike like, say, a Gladious). I suppose wearing a Belstaff cover suit over No2 dress might just be ok on a moped, but you’ll sweat like a boxer.
Theyre a great little run around, good on fuel and they do the job, getting me to and from work, the squadron, etc.
and I don’t see the need to pass my test to get a bigger bike till im 24 considering the new bike rules. I’ve got no need to go on motorways/carry pillions, seeing as I’ve passed my car test.
As for uniform I’ve got a 45l GIVI Top Box which did the job carrying my uniform around
Besides, I already have my car license and access to one when I need it, but who wants to be stuck in a stuffy metal box when it’s nice and sunny outside?
I currently have a Yamaha XJ600S which I have had for a few years. At uni, I had a CMX250 then a Suzuki RS400. Just got rid of my BMW R65 to allow the missus to buy her first bike, a lovely 125 Cruiser.
Anyone who’s interested in getting (back) into biking might be interested in a free ‘Get On’ ride.
Get On is a Motorcycle Industry funded campaign which aims to introduce as many people as possible to the fun, freedom and financial savings that can be made when you learn to ride a motorbike or scooter.
There are over 100 centres around the country that offer a free motorcycle taster session allowing you to experience for yourself just how easy it is to ride! All the kit is provided and you get personal guidance from a trained professional in a safe and secure area away from cars so you can relax and enjoy yourself.
And it’s completely free. There’s no catch!
So why not book your free experience now and join the thousands of people who have already discovered, through Get On, that life really is better on two wheels.

So you’d rather be zipped up in leathers instead? Whatever floats your boat
Personally, I prefer the aircon option :p
Can’t get much better aircon than being on a bike Who needs mecahnically cooled air when you can crack the vizor open and have pure fresh air around you.
I’ve got a bike currently languishing in the shed, but on its way to restoration and road worthiness again.
Honda CB450 superdream. Older than 60% of the forum members and great fun to ride.
I Currently have a Triumph Scrambler (900) in metallic khaki green ! standard colour option honest
I use it when the spirit moves and I don’t have too much stuff to take with me, both my sons ride and the current one uses his when my timings don,t match with his

All good fun

I too have a XJ600S which I’m hoping to get back on the road this year. She’s been laid up for quite a while, an “N” registration with 20k miles on the clock!
When I first started out on a bike, dress regs actually mentioned bike riding and suggested that you should have a plain pattern helmet - preferably white - and to keep a beret or forage cap for use when not wearing it.
