Modorated Global Manhunt

Out of fourteen post, six of them where moderators! You cant even live by your own rules of taking it off line. Instead you continue to play a game of tug of war by continuing to hold the rope, rather saying nothing and promoting rule 12.5.

There’s a fine line between moderation and censorship, and I feel you step over it with this one.

This forum is about honest debate, which should include the good and the ugly. turning it in to a sterile happy place is not the answer.

Different view I know, but that’s all it is, a different view.

Give me a while to rteply, give me a while longer to sort out the Global Manhunt thread, and then its all yours…

You will never get anywhere with cowardly moderators who hide behind nom de plumes as the are scared of HQAC. Overmoderation stifles a websight.

And to add, I get what the mods are trying to promote (atmos, vibe, etc…) but at the moment they are catastrophically failing.

Seeing as it’s their site, they get to make the rules. It’s hardly as though they’re removing free speech or anything, just replacing one rude word with a less rude one.

And it’s not due to HQAC, it’s just general appropriateness. I wouldn’t stand for that sort of language on squadron, so it’s not appropriate on a cadet site.

The issue of language and anonymous modding are not one and the same. Of course you are right, the mods run the site. If they continue they can have an easy life as they drive more and more posters away.

I fully understand why we don’t want swearing round these parts, and I fully support the point of view that its not a democracy, just the Mods’ train set and they can do what they want.

I just think it’s odd that the only two posts I’ve ever made that have been ‘modded’ we both for swearing when I didn’t actually swear in either of them. In both I’d actually chosen a more polite or coy (without becoming effete) word rather than the usual rude one.

Would you accept it from cadets?

Sorry Sirvicalsmeer, I’m struggling to get past the irony of you moaning about anonymous moderator accounts when you’ve got an anonymous username…

Am I asking you to change it? Hey, thats up to you. Just as its up to the Mods to decide whether they wish to remain anonymous. The same choice you made.

Yep, brimming with new members and posters at the moment aren’t we?

Around 60 new members since the forums were migrated, and a decent numnber of new posters? Yes, I’d say we are. Now we’ve just got to encourage them to post and stay.

What happened to all the replys from Modorators in the original post of Global Manhunt?

Did you do this to save the embasrisment of the Modorator or to make the contributor look stupid by weakening the argument.

Not trying to start a fight, but if you are going to split topics at least move all the relivent post rather than trying to bury the evidence.

I’m not embarrassed. I should have PMed you, but posted it in the public by mistake. Whoops.

The fact is that we can never please everyone all of the time.

We went anonymous because people were having phone calls in work time from Regional Commandants about things posted on here, which they could nor would no anything about (asking to remove things because they didn’t agree with it etc). They were asked for information on posters so they could speak to them in real life.

Personally, I don’t really have a problem with not being anonymous. I chose this username because I wanted to fit in!

Regarding swearing - We don’t allow it. JB’s post above explains better than I will, but if you were using swear words around the cadets, I would consider it inappropriate. We need to make sure that what people see shows us in the best light possible, and having threads full of swearing does nothing to convey a good image of this site.

We’ve got a nice shiny new site, so we’re trying to make sure we leave the old behaviours behind. As JB says, everyone should have read the AUP and therefore agree with it.

Nice reply.

But you have still failed to answer what happened to the original six post from the moderator team?

I understand your need to split the tread, but in doing so someone used the opportunity to dilute the discussion which to me seems like smoke and mirrors.

Like I said before, I’m not looking for a fight for the sake of fighting, but fairness needs to be demonstrated without a us and them attitude.

I wrote a long reply that got binned because I timed out :frowning:

Basically, someone has split the thread to keep on topic, but they have left a few things that now don’t make sense.

I don’t think there’s an “us and them” feel. We get this every time there are new moderators, who come down hard on infringements. They don’t do anything other than follow the AUP to the letter, but some people seem to take issue with this? We have all done the same as them this time, and are following the AUP like we should be.

Don’t blame you one bit for being Anon.

My name isn’t really 5432golf RAFVR(T). I got finger pointed (so to speak) once upon a time.

What happened to the original posts? I moved them to the snippage area. They had nothing to do with the oringinal topic of the thread, and on the basis that a discussion was already started detailing the posts, what would the point have been copying them in here? You were happily discussing the subject without them, so I don’t see that anything is being diluted. Save embarassment? No - there was nothing for anyone to be embarassed about.

Operation Dynamo wouldn’t know exactly why this was done - in fact none of the mods would be able to tell you exactly why, because it was me who did it. I’m sure you realise that we are all in fact different people, and I don’t live on this site so can’t instantly answer all questions that relate to my actions. I wouldn’t expect the mods to either. So you’ll need to be patient.

If you’re not trying to start a fight, then why does the accusatory and inflamatory tone of your posts suggest otherwise? Why else would you re-edit the “offending” post?

There is no conspiracy against free speech, all I see right now is a pointless battle of wills between a couple of users and the site staff. We’ve done our best to explain our actions, we’ve been open and honest about our reasoning. All perfectly fair and above board. So I really am struggling to see what you’re arguing about and where the problem is. However, to be clear, if you don’t like the way the forum is run, there are other forums available.

you won’t get a reply from me for a few hours, I’m on a course.
