Continuing the discussion from MOD Switchboard number:
Ah, just tried to get through to CGY ACLO (no answer on their Skype number).
Tried my normal route of Wyton’s PBX, wait to be connected to MOD Operator.
Ah, message - “Operator & enquiry services are no longer available.”
Tried via Lossie = the same.
That’s not good for public comms. Anyone else had this??
Waddo’s contact number “CALL US” is wrong on RAF website (“incorrect number”), have emailed them to advise them.
We no longer use Skype, it’s all done on TEAMS now. There are some Station numbers on websites
I believe they were being overwhelmed with calls from the public & needed expert help in how to manage it
so they recruited a bunch of doctors receptionists……
This may be local. My most recent email from a non-RAFAC RAF person still had a skype number to contact them on.
Is that number in their email footer? As most, if not all, MOD accounts have transferred across the Teams as Skype is not supported
Yep, it has Mil/Civ/Skype/Mobile as options.
I had the same, several email signature blocks from serving personnel recently.
Just been informed by a friendly serving wg cdr that it ceased very recently, too expensive, not used enough - & fewer & fewer fixed lines due to use of Teams.
B*gger. That was a very useful facility.
It’s been a problem since the onset of ‘unified communications’ and per seat licensing for comms.
It works great if you want to speak to a particular person but it’s rubbish if you want to speak to someone at a location or in a department, be it stores or front of house or maintenance.
Cisco made a bundle out of desk phones that ran over IP for that reason but it seems to have gone to PCs and headsets now
It might be possible to convert Skype numbers to Teams numbers. No guarantee this is universal, but the last six digits of my number never changed. The code changed from 0300 to 0303 and the first digit of the number changed from a 1 to a 3 (i.e. 0300 1xx xxxx became 0303 3xx xxxx).
