Evening all! Our Squadron Band is set to lead the Wales & West 75th Anniversary parade soon, and we’re fairly confident that we meet and abide by all the necessary drill regulations etc etc… but it dawned on me that I’ve never actually seen these regulations. After doing some digging online I could not find anything up-to-date on the matter.
If anybody can direct me to said regulations that would be very welcome. If not however then if anybody knows of any regulations that we may have missed or any important rules that we must follow, then please do let me know!
Sidenote: I feel like the majority of the ACO miss out when it comes to Bands of any sort, what has your experience been like (if any)?
There is a pipe band and a normal band in our region the pipe band are superb… The other band however forget a fundamental rule… You need to be able to play a tune!!!
( not the cadets but the band staff at fault!!)
I think having a band is a very “English/ southern” thing you don’t really get bands north of the border. although in the 50/60s a number of sqns had bugle bands but I think that was the norm of the time as the BB were into their bugle bands at the same time
It is true that bands are far more popular in England & Wales, I can only think of one Squadron band in S&NI (and of course the fantastic Pipes & Drums). It would be great for S&NI to be represented at the Corps Competition but for some unknown reason Bagpipes aren’t allowed in Competition.
Our Squadron was indeed one of those 50s Bugle bands, and one of the few that still survives today! It seems the ACO did see a decline in music, possibly because of money or lack of interest etc, but interest is rapidly growing in our Wing at least so here’s hoping the rest of the Corps may follow.
