Marcella shirts

Ladies (preferably) & gents,

Those of you who wear no 5s, can you recommend somewhere to get a marcella shirt from without breaking the bank. I have a 13.5in collar & everywhere seems to start at 14.5!

At this stage I couldn’t care less if it’s a male or female shirt (although I am female).

Also because I’m female, although they do 13.5in collars, children’s sizes would not fit me in…other areas.

Any help would be much appreciated.

TYIA.

What about http://www.samuelbrothers.co.uk/samuelszencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20_22&products_id=708

They do a 14"…an inch spare at the neck is a lot, but half an inch could be lost by moving the button.

And I think, with that pleated channel down the front, these shirts are visually gender-less…(talking of which, perhaps they will have stitched darts at the back, which could be let out for accommodation purposes)

Wilf_san, thanks for that, it’s a great help. Will look in to that.

There’s also another approach that >might< be worth considering. Buy yourself a fitting good quality white flat-fronted evening dress shirt (or just a heavy cotton shirt) and get it tailored to have a marcella bib added at the front.

The material has a dimpled/golfball sort of finish - it’s possibly something that could be obtained quite easily/reasonably, and wouldn’t break the bank to have made-up by a tailor/alterations place.

Incidentally, I did have a quick look at the website of Gieves & Hawkes, classic original tailors to the Royal Air Force…not only do they seem to go no smaller than a 15" neck, they’ll maybe charge you £145 for the privilege!!

Have you tried any service clothing stores? PM if you haven’t and I’ll see what I can do as I’m visiting Cranwell clothing stores in the next day or two. They’re about £6 or £7 from memory.

Chaz, I am off to Headley Court later on today so will ask there. Hopefully the regular guy is back as the stand in didn’t go out of his way to help me last time…

If it’s from service stores, I’d recommend adding an inch to your normal collar size, we always find they’re incredibly tight at your normal size!
