Any ideas how I can help cadets to enjoy drill rather than seeing it as a chore? Open to trying new ideas ! I was thinking that if they find it more enjoyable they’re more likely to stay quiet .
That’s another question - how to encourage people to be quiet in squad. Telling people off for talking and telling them to be quiet works only temporarily
Are you just doing constant square bashing as opposed to things like magic circle etc?
Why not split the squad in 2 and have them go off and come up with a drill routine, then the other flight mark it for accuracy to the drill movements timings they’ve used and their synchronicity?
Coming from a cadet perspective here, I did partake in a “cadet says” with drill, quite a good idea since you can change it from being normal like Simon says or including your own twists where if you do it wrong your out or if you do it when wrong command your out. Overall quite a enjoyable way to do drill.
Unfortunately, some people are always going to find it boring, it’s not for everyone.
Having said that, there is a lot in how you present yourself when you run a drill session. While it should be disciplined and cadets should be focused, it doesn’t need to be serious all the time and you should try to put some personality into it.
If you’re doing a normal drill practice, you could mix in some squad control. Get some cadets to take turns giving the commands, with an NCO coaching them.
