So following the flawless ney seamless (sic) roll out of pillars in SW, the rest of RAFAC are soon to do the same (even LASER who were the original template) using the SW model.
Let’s hope lessons learned are shared, or do we expect a wave of pauses to allow perm staff to cope (maybe a national pause of all training over the summer to allow staff to be trained, clear backlogs and of course have holidays). My enjoyment of watching friends in the West Country getting more & more frustrated at trying to get the simplest things done could be about to bite my bottom, karma is cruel that way
Personally, having worked within the LaSER system, it’s much better. The CS become experts rather than a jack of all trades, and if someone is on leave, there is someone else who can pick up queries and workload. Plus, with standardisation across the RAFAC, there is no reason why one RHQ staff can’t assist another. It’s time to move away from the 1940’s structure and move to more modern ways to work.
You’d hope not, but I’ve heard some horror stories about how some processes run, mainly due to undermanning, allegedly only one person currently has the ability to book Clarity down there.
Specialists are great but can become overwhelmed if too specialised. IMHO a few generalists allow the specialists to do what they need to.
Before moving to pillars, SW region was basically shut down. Only having one person to book clarity is one more than they had before. The undermanning is not because of pillars.
