Letter to Prospective Civ Com Members

that is exactly what we do.

our annual review is the biggest interaction the Cadets have with the CWC and with it the parents also. An an invite always goes out asking for parents to consider it “and you could help run a night like this” gets those who dont mind cooking a some cocktail sausages and preparing some sandwiches thinking it is doable
What’s the time commitment for CivCom members?

I was invited to the annual ‘open evening’ at our local ATC sqn last year. Interesting. I felt I could help if I offered to be on the CivCom but I suspect I would have too many views on how to run the place…
At mine it requires 1 evening meeting every 2-3 months, others are more active and other less.

However whilst ideas are usually going to be welcome views on how to run the place will not. The committee is not there to decide and dictate how the squadron is to be run.

It goes for squadron staff as well well as committee members but everyone has views. I am not that interested in people with views, I like people who have ideas and even better that that people who propose plans and most importantly see them through.
I sent a letter out trying to recruit CWC members and I got staff :-). No new CWC though.

I’m just going to trick the parents into attending the AGM by holding a presentation eve/quiz event on that day.

Then once I’ve got a captive audience I’ll pounce
As soon as you say the word, committee, or try and dress it up in any way to sound different, people shy away.
Every year our Chairman does a presentation and appeals for helpers at the awards evening. The pitch is for help with fundraising, rather than for actual committee members. He takes emails and lets them know when things are, which has had positive results. A couple of these have become committee members, as they have got involved and wanted to do more.
I’d be reluctant to do it at a social event, as it could sour the event and stop people coming to future ones.
