Lee's Trophy

Units with space to expand and lay on a better show seem to have it easier.

The sqns in recent times that I know have been nominated are all 2+ hutters or have a large compound and or access to extra space/buildings (through a local agreement) to do things. I don’t know of many that have been single hut on a tiny compound and nothing else.
Of course there a likely to be exceptions.

You would need to be pretty desperate to win it to do some of the things described.

Because we don’t have the capacity or glamour an old TA centre does.

The last time we were inspected, the regional commandant and the ARC didn’t even seem interested. Not sure if that’s because they’d already chosen someone else by the time they got to us, or because they’d been to see us about 3 times in the previous 4 years and knew us too well!

Best advice for the Lee’s Trophy is to turn down the nomination!

However i am sure your new build has improved capacity and “glamour” than a typical Spooner Hut the majorioty of Squadrons operate from??

Although i can understand that you fell you have been “downgraded” from a “glamourous TA Centre” as a “new build” i would expect it to be better than the 40-50+ yr old wooden huts than many others have

I’ve been in a new build and had ‘new build’ extension to get us up to the new 180 sq metres. The new build I’ve seen is all very nice and modern compared to a Spooner, but is purely a functional, sterile and soul less shed in comparison to the wooden Spooner. It reminded me of the demountables contractors use as offices. Given the similarity to these demountables and the modern construction techniques used, I very much doubt they’d be around as long as a Spooner.

The average lifespan of those type of constructions, based on a 48 hour working week/medium foot traffic, is 15 years. They expect this to triple for cadet use (high footfall, not much care or maintenance etc).
