So from a leading cadet point of view, do you use any resources available on SharePoint? Do you get them to complete the logbook or is that horrendously out of date?
Senior and master point of view… Do you give the cadets the choice of the three subjects per classification level? How do you manage them if they want to do different things?
Do you use any material on SharePoint for this? What do you do if you think that most of the adult staff team are probably not book smart on these topics ? (They can probably get away with it in first class and leaning)
We only use the log books - down to the instructor whether they use the resources on Sharepoint to do that.
Senior and Master we don’t give them a choice, and we instruct it again depends on the instructor if they use whats on sharepoint. We always do Airpower due to the logbook, and we’ve created logbooks for the other subjects that we teach.
Although for all of them you have to use whats on sharepoint as a guidance because of the exams.
However we do only do 2 academic nights a month, it works well for us and everyone is ok track to what the recommendation is.
Interested to hear why you don’t offer master anymore? Is that a choice that you could make? Can you not allow them to study on their own to obtain the qualification?
I haven’t tried the leading logbook but I’m considering it for this year (we run classification training Oct-Dec) because they’re atrocious at taking notes.
For senior/master, I pick the topics based on what we covered the previous year and what my instructors want to teach.
In terms of people’s familiarity with the senior/master topics. If they don’t have it already, then it’s just a case of looking at the material and trying to figure it out. Some of them are quite straight forward, some more niche. I can’t really think of any practical advice other than that. Remember you only really need to have the capability to deliver six of the topics in total.
A good way to build in some resilience is to get less experienced staff to sit in on lessons delivered by those more familiar with the topic.
