Specifically, the Airmanship stuff here - I’ve just gone through some of the presentations for the Aircraft types, and I’ve been informed that while the vast majority of aircraft are out of service now, there are also a few inconsistencies in the information on the Hercs (and yes, I have a reliable source for the Herc info…an ex load-master…)
Can we retool the presentations to bring them up to speed a little more? The Atlas and Voyager slides have hardly any information on them, and beyond either prototype images or their initial introduction, there’s not much to go off. I feel bringing it up to speed in line with both the books and whatever may be on Bader Learn would be more useful than trying to teach incorrect info to my cadets…but realise that may be a hot topic re: teaching!
I actually had no clue - thought I’d check en masse first to see if it was something others had considered (esp. as it came up during a virtual training session where I was thin on the ground as it was and had to then try and pad it out with adlibbing) before I go making amendments.
Amount of times I had to explain to my class that this was new(ish) when I was a cadet undergoing training I think cemented that this was incredibly dated information. But hey, if I can make necessary amendments then I’m happy to try and work on it over the weekend since I have the files available to me locally.
Yes they should? Classification is the poor relation of PTS and has been neglected over the past several years. A refresh of Classification training will be announced in the autumn with the relaunch of the PTS.
It’s moreso if there are still aircraft that were in at the time but aren’t necessarily anymore (e.g. the Merlin is more Navy than Air Force, Hercs for obvious reasons), or if there are aircraft that we know nothing about whatsoever beyond prototype photos and a single slide.
While it does help to have an expert for some of the aircraft at my disposal (and I’m very lucky to know an ex-C-130 pilot on my sqn too), it doesn’t entirely give me much confidence knowing now that I’m teaching incorrectly and having to rely on the RAF site to teach appropriately rather than making localised changes (I would happily update the official slides once new ones do come out, eventually! I don’t teach too often, it’s just while our stand-down has been going on we’ve had to go back to the days of me being at university in online classes )
