Joining a new cadet unit

Hi I’ve already been in cadets but only for about 8 months and now I’m joining a new squadron and I was wondering if there are any opportunities I should take this time,I’m 16 by the way so I don’t have long before I age out of cadets. Any answers would be helpful as I’m a bit stuck on things like this.

Anything and everything!

You might want to prioritise things you already know you’re interested in or stuff you haven’t tried before, but other than that, the advice is the same as for any cadet. The more you can do, the more you’ll get out of it.

Also, welcome back!

Thanks for the info and it’s good to be back

I probably should have also said, if you’ve got any specific goals you want to work towards it’s probably worth speaking to your staff about the best way to get there, given how much time you’ve got.

We’ll I am partial to drill so I might ask if I could practice by moving a flight up and down the parade square a couple of times

Hopefully, your squadron does drill training where the cadets get chance to take control of a squad (if not, you could suggest it!).

Wings sometimes put on drill days or similar drill activities which you can keep an eye out for.

NCO courses also have drill as a key element, but they will have additional eligibility criteria. Might still be worth looking at though once you get bedded in.

You can stay as a cadet to age 20 if you want to.
