Issue LCE (past and present)

Does anyone have any idea where to get the inner harness / strap system for the issued DCC daysack?

the jetpack?

With the Issued bergen side pouches?

It’s the DCC daysack / patrol pack (from the Osprey system days)

Example here on eBay:

Mine came without the fittings internally and I want to use it for a portable radio project!

Huh?

Never seen that. Might need one

It is a good bit of kit. I found it for less than in that ad but it didn’t have the internal straps and clips, probably why!

it is a bit on the large size for a range bag or as a genuine daysack for fieldcraft so thinking about using it for a deployable radio system.

Could be decent for RMTLs aswell, enough space for personal kit, Team FA kit, and even oral support

They are quite heavy bits of kit, I had one for a time and they are a good size. I’ve never seen the harness for sale separately though.

True

I bought it because I saw it fairly cheap (in a charity shop) without really knowing what it was, it was about the price of basic non issue daysack and seemed unused.

That was a while back, I’ve never used it because I have other bags that are more suitable for what I need, but was having a sort out hence asking here!

Is this retired now then? As in Osprey virtus?

I think so though it might be still kicking around in support units.

There’s a Virtus pack, in fact 3 - an infantry patrol pack and a commander’s version both that work with the ‘spine’ and a 17L daysack. I’d like one of those if I can find one in a good condition.

(ETA Osprey is the MOLLE system that came before Virtus)

Hello everyone, my name is Westland Scout and I am a kit addict…

Ahh, apologies, I thought Osprey and virtus were the same system. Cheers!

They are both MOLLE based but slightly different. I read somewhere that Virtus used non standard spacing for the MOLLE/PALS system but unable to confirm that with the few bits of it I have.

In short order we had/have

‘58 pattern webbing

PLCE (no MOLLE)

Osprey (MOLLE) - also had a body armour system

Virtus (MOLLE) - also body armour (known as the STV, scalable tactical vest)

Was the 45l infantry jetpack Bergen for the Osprey system? Because I know you’ve got the modern virtus stuff as above, and I also know it’s made by PRI, but can’t see any load carrying bags other than your DCC one under the Osprey system?

And of course the PLCE bergens

Not forgetting:

‘08 Pattern

‘14(?) Pattern

‘37 Pattern

‘44 Pattern

The PRI patrol pack was technically part of PLCE. For some reason fell out of favour with Camelbak Motherlodes getting issued.

The DCC pack looks like an attempt to take the Motherlode admin advanges on board.

I think it is made by CQC who makes some of the PLCE kit.

Hoping no one still uses them unless they are re-enactors!

we had 44 as cadets …

No-one’s mentioned 72 pattern above.

It was a thing, I have the (very rare) belt

It was a very limited issue. I’ve heard Special forces only?

(It always tickled me that the special forces had such distinctive kit.)
