I had the same concerning radio qualification & ability to teach Blue Comms. Issued radio licence by CAA & round the world comms experience with VHF / UHF / HF (including Morse) = counts for nothing.
I always make sure to check the relevant ACTO/ACP for what is actually required for instructors to try to argue. Unfortunately, that doesnât stop some SMEs/WSOs doing what they want (which often makes more work for themselves, which I donât understand).
I was told for MOI policy is changing as its all about standardisation since MOI has become a prereq for O18 so it needs to be quality checked - as I said for a RAFAC only recognised qual
I assume, like me, you just teach it anyway - if they go for a badge they will find it so much easier having already done it
So theyâre going to make a piece of mandatory training more difficult to deliver. Classic.
Anyone can teach blue comms. The ACTO says it very clearly.
Assessors need to be approved but there is
no set criteria. Itâs pretty much âcan you operate a radio confidentlyâ and know the procedures.
That was the oneâŚ
Not yet, the Wg Radio person didnât actually endear themselves to me.
Nor I⌠They werenât very helpful.
donât get me started. well ok, you have now:
i was a regular supporter of the Wing Radio courses, the WRCO and I have been long term friends so was great working together over the weekend delivering Blue and Bronze course.
then the pandemic hit.
the WRCO stepped down, and the incoming WRCO indicated i had âlost currencyâ having not delivered X lessons/courses in Y timeframe - missing the point this was because of the pandemic.
while âby the bookâ, there appeared to be no leniency given the situation, and my years of experience with material that had barely changed in that time
despite my 8+ years of 4+ weekends a year for Wing, plus my own efforts on Squadron, it counted for nothing and was told i needed to be âassessedâ teaching before i could continue - that attitude by the incoming WRCO put me off and so i have since dropped that âauthorityâ and now stick to teaching 1st Class radio on Squadron only
Hammer, meet head of nail. This was exactly my experience jumping up to OC, and itâs part of the reason I gave it up again pretty soon afterwards in spite of my own local success.
The other big issue we have is that we promote incompetence. RAFAC is full of Post-Turtles in some of the higher echelons of the org.
Look at how this conversation has gone today and all the items that have been brought forwards. @Sellador - I hope weâve learnt a lesson about not commenting on things youâre not qualified to speak on?
Yeah, but you then have to go hunting on SharePoint in case thereâs a back of a fag packet IBN that makes the whole ACP irrelevant. Even if one doesnât exist.
Thatâs a pretty harsh line.
As with any debate, @Sellador is just putting across a different viewpoint, albeit on a tangential matter related to something they conceded is ok to discuss. We might be quite passionate in our belief that our view is correct, but that doesnât require spanking down any opposition.
Whether or not the issues weâre highlighting are valid or not doesnât directly affect the suggestion that this volume of negativity shouldnât be as much in the foreground as they suggested.
@Batfink directly tackled the point raised; however there may be room for some variance in search results - Iâm not about to conduct a statistically relevant, double blind study on it.
As for the topic question, a less experienced opinion is still a valid opinion, and us old heads shouldnât shy away from a different perspective. Even 2 years is enough to get a sense of trajectory, even if only joining partway along the curve.
Honestly, my view is slightly different to 3.5 years ago. Nuanced, but different. There are signs we may have reached level flight, albeit at a lower altitude. There are still problems, but are those problems still worsening?
Whether we improve or stall further, is down to next steps.
How do we get the drone stuff moving?
Will flying continue to improve?
Can we tackle cfav recruitment?
Will we get a Matterface MK2 or a Whatshisface Enigma of a shadow that makes no positive progress?
âŚetc.
This was sort of my point though with pointing out their time in the org.
I think in the last couple of years things have leveled out a bit. Certainly post Tony thereâs been less storms. So itâs completely understandable that someone whoâs only been around under two years would think that the thread title is a bit much, and that this thread is over the top.
But for those of us who know, we know itâs not.
Iâll provide a counter pointâŚ
At a local Wing level I can clearly see a change in trajectory, itâs marginal gains but over time they will add up, unfortunately this is all volunteer driven so we canât control the big stuff, but lets focus on what we can control, and improve it.
Thereâs definitely a geographic component. Wing-wise things are improving, regionally is still hit and miss, and nationally stalled in both directions.
Itâs the national side holding up a lot of progress, and region creating hurdles.
Squadron and wing is mostly a staffing issue.
