Incoming Region Changes - ASTRA

So what happened after the last main restructuring back in 1999; diddly squat.

People just got on with it; if they didn’t like it, they left. Staff made new friends and actually built links with neighbouring Wings because of the moves. As for cadets, they made new friends in their new Wings.

After a couple of years, it was forgotten about :man_shrugging:t2:

Probably the unknown was the wasted money on rebranding Regions, etc

It depends on the activity, I sometimes find it quite difficult to work with my old Squadron as the 2 different regions have very different attitudes to risk and to what they will support finically.

Looks like some units have had news.

They handled that info release well.

Interesting that we have some squadrons in a similar boat, crossing RFCA boundaries, but OC Wing insists that nothing is happening.

Time will tell.

Perhaps HQAC should spill the tea on the regional changes?

No cap

I see the Regional Commandant for Wales and West has announced that Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing will be joining his Region in the new year.

  1. Why is this being announced piece meal?
  2. IF and I appreciate that’s a big if, there is a joined up plan. Why not release the whole lot.
  3. Birmingham in Wales… :joy::rofl::joy::rofl:

The Region is “Wales & West”.
Birmingham is the West Country.

Case for defence rests.

Not as West as Cornwall, Devon and Zomerzet - them’s West Country proper - but I don’t see them getting an invite to the great Astra Party.

Hey.
I’m all for scrapping off regions!
Im fact pretty much everything above wing level…

For all that we get from Wing and above.

Speaking as a Devonian. Birmingham is absocussinglutley not the West Country.

From here it’s basically the wild country north of the Wall.

As a Brummie I agree it is not the West Country.

Not looked at a map of W&B Wing to see where the borders are yet but this has been expected since the original announcement. Surprised the Xmas message was used to announce it.

To be fair Merseyside Wing is also in Wales & West and that’s definitely not the West Country.

My birth certificate says West Midlands. That isn’t the same as West Country.

Maybe we just need to rebrand Wales and West to make it more inclusive of the Brummies, Scousers and Woolybacks - rather than incorrectly referring to it as “the West” and hoping nobody spots the mistakes.

I’m all up for calling it “Wales and the left overs”, but fear that won’t go down well.
