Regional courses I think - no longer involved as I’m not a Cont Comd but I seem to recall that was the change.
The post isn’t - the region might be.
Not sure if anyone has the time but it would be interesting to see what the model would be if the ATC changed all their wing areas to match the same borders as the ACF.
What would be the break down of number of Sqns in each wing. Which wings would have only a couple of changes and which would be broken up completely. Who would be the winners and who would be the losers/
Once you do the wings then you can start fiddling with the regions. As a thought experiment it might give us a idea of direction of travel & what might be on the cards if they are thinking of synchronising borders.
A real lost opportunity to open up Group Captain posts to non ex-RAF jobs for the boys…
Would immeasurably widen the gene pool and perhaps God-forbid allow in some people with real bussiness experience and talent.
It will just be a reshuffle for my money. Essex Wing in, Warks and Brum out and Herts & Bucks broken up/merged with other Wings.
Once you start to dissolve/break up wings then every wing gets effected.
South & East Mids technically covers 5 counties so could certainly be in the sights of any boundary changes.
If matched to the ACF beds&Cambs and Herts & Bucks would become Beds& Herts, Cambridgeshire and Buckinghamshire (which would be an increase of wings so may not happen).
The question is would there be the right number of volunteer wing staff, with the right experience & qualifications to ease merging & splitting of wings?
It’s not about matching the ACF boundaries it’s about matching RFCA boundaries.
SEM is as far as I can tell exclusively within one RFCA Region. Herts and Bucks is in 2 RFCA regions that you can’t put together in one Region.
Essex is in the same RFCA region as Herts, Norfolk & Suffolk so will have to move. (If it has any Squadrons covered by GLRFCA I would expect them to be taken out of the Wing).
Sorry you are right so perhaps I am over complicating it.
However following on from your example those Sqns not in Northants or Leicestershire would need to move to SEM to be cover by EMRFCA. At what point does a wing become too large to be effective?
FFS, RCs already know the plan. If they haven’t cascaded this information they are being idle. However I expect the hold up is Wg based.
Maybe I’m being dense, but while matching RFCA areas would simplify things for the paid staff, I don’t see a great deal of benefit in terms of the “improved performance” people are talking about.
If any part of the reorg IS aimed at this and it’s about better relationship building opportunities generating that performance uptick, is it worth the upheaval compared to creating “infrastructure” posts attached to RHQs? One per RFCA, and open to those from within the relevant RFCA area.
Could give somewhere for Wg Cdrs to go…
I agree, is really having to deal with a couple of different people that difficult to do?
It’s not like there is a simple list which tell you which RFCA looks after which unit……
Apparently our RC is “assessing a number of options” with a plan to be published by the end of the month.
The unit I supernumerary at was briefed tonight on their move.
We are inheriting new squadrons, expected to transfer by January.
Share any info
The fact units are finding out the changes from their new Wing Commander before being briefed by their own RC and CoC I think says enough about how this is being managed and communicated as anything else.
We thought we may have been winning the internal comms battle at one point but I’m not so sure!
Would be useful to know where in the UK this is taking place for those of us not getting any info.
OC GMW jumped the gun and contacted a number of Staffs Wing units welcoming them to his wing and asking for an OC meeting relatively soon, ready for their 01 Jan move.
They had not been told anything before this, so OC Staffs has had to try and update the whole wing, letting them know they’re loosing units to GMW and C&E (unknown Wing).
There will probably be more, but this has started a knock of units realising RCs an OCWs know a lot more about what’s happening, despite many saying they hadnt started on a plan yet.
Honestly I get that they are trying to do the whole ‘let the OC wings tell Sqn OCs what’s happening’ thing. But if they want people to all find out at the same time they should just publish a document organisation wide detailing all the changes for all to read. Sounds like it’s too late for that now.
Being relatively close to 3 separate wings, I am keeping my fingers crossed for a move
