Which is what I would be expecting. Just rearrange the boundaries so that each RFCA area only has a single group captains involved in it.
This kind of thing already exists too and works AFAIK. London, Middlesex and Surrey all share a WHQ. Rather than 3 separate HQs they have 1 whoâs staff have specific responsibilities.

The region as a whole does but the Highland/Lowland RFCA line cuts through West Scotland and South East Scotland Wings, with 5 and 3 squadrons respectively sat in Highland and the rest in Lowland. The latest Scottish reorganisation only happened in February this year with 4 of those 8 squadrons changing wings as part of that process. One would think those changes would have been made with the knowledge that there would potentially be a shift to realign with RFCA boundaries and they are tolerating a few squadrons out of that alignment; or is that giving too much credit?
I agree itâs still far less messy than elsewhere in the UK.
Thatâs the level of detail I didnât know, but you would hope HQAC considered it when rearranging Wings. Sadly I wouldnât be surprised if they hadnât.
That doesnât matter though does it? The interest based up the Commandants letter is in having the RFCAâs just deal with a single Region not a single wing.
Whatâs the deal with Essex since they are the Wing in that Region likely to move to a different Region?
CCF ran by Wg Cdr not Grp Capt
The welsh wings are also well wrong. 1WW (South East Wales) has had a huge land grab and Annexed much of the East of 3WW (SW) and 2WW (N) area. I also think that map of the regions is well out of date. 6 wing in S&NI and 6 wings in North, both have been 5 for several years.
Sorry @grounded for pointing holes, Its very good work and I donât think that the region boundaries changed much.
Although, I wonder if Buxton Sqn will change regions again. Was in North, then moved to WW and could move to C& E.
All good points. It was just a rough attempt to help discussions so fire away with any corrections. I suspected the maps might be out of date and wrong but thatâs just what came up on a search.
I wonder if HQAC have up to date maps of Wing and Region areas on SharePoint?
@grounded this is the newest map I could find. but as maps go it not very good. The whole of the Gower peninsular has disappeared, the welsh wing boundaries are still wrong and W&W seems to have lost a wing due to an amalgamation of Staff and WM Wings.
Global warming causing sea level rise perhaps?
Your RCs have the details already. It should be on itâs way to you if not already.
Place your bets Ladies last chance to place your bets!
Donât shoot the messenger - Consider though that if 34(?) Wing HQs are consolidated in to 13 âareasâ, that then you are saving the salaries of a significant number of C2/E2/E1s, (driven by consolidation of roles and automation via Cadet and Volunteer Portal) - More than enough to fund extra OF-5s
But where will the OF-5âs come from⌠please donât go fishing in the WEXO and ARC pool for candidates. PLEASE.
Not really. If they are Gp Capts and move to FTRS, there is no change in the overall sum. In fact it could be less depending on status.
I can see this creating more jobs for the boys/girls who are mates of the incumbents. More people with a need to justify their salaries, tinkering in what they donât know about and creating havoc. Itâs bad enough with the people we have imposed on us as it ts.
Sweet jesus no.
If my wexo becomes a gp Capt, there will be no end to the steps I will take to prevent this.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!
Iâm really not sure I can believe this is the way they are heading, purely because if they were Iâm pretty sure there would have been a stop on hiring for WHQs. Yet Sussex has just opened up for a new E2.
I too am sure itâs a wind up.
But, never a bad time to quote General Chang (quoting Shakespeare in the âoriginal Kingonâ).
Ah but it would have to come out of our Budget as opposed to someone elseâs.
Well if you are going to the ACF model you actually need more of those grades.
