Incoming Region Changes - ASTRA

This.

I mean who joined the RAFAC to be involved in chnage programmes and start working up sprints…

I certainly didnt!

I joined to deliver AT, shooting, camps… you know, all that good stuff.

Amazing how much RFCA give the ACF, compared to us!

100% I really don’t think they have considered what will have to happen to some Wings and areas.

I think they are actually too late, this should’ve been done during lockdown when people couldn’t plan for the future. Most Wing Training teams will already be working on next years plans and now in some cases they don’t even know if they will have a wing to deliver them for. (If you want DTE you need to be booking it now for next year).

Yes, that’s very true. I’m just about to finalise my calendar for next year so without any further detail there’s no way to get a view of what effect the changes might have on that plan.

I’ve already done my course calendar for 2022 as an SME and 2 of the other teams I help on have planned theirs too.

Here’s my attempt at mapping RFCA and ATC Regions/Wings. Sources were the RFCA venues website and image of Regions/Wings that was originally from an annual ATC report I think.

S&NI Region matches nicely to 3 RFCA areas. The rest of the UK is a bit of a mess of overlapping RFCAs, Regions and Wings.
The border of SW Region looks very wrong, but you can see where it should fall. If TV and HIOW (I think?) moved into LASER, then Wessex RFCA would cover the rest of SW.

That could be quite good for SW. it’s already a long way to get anywhere from P&C.

looks like you have done the works for HQAC…

was that their plan all along?
“official” leak of plans in place then wait for ACC to second guess what it might be…then use that as the plan going forward?

Nice work. You’re not HQAC staff are you?

I don’t know whether to be flattered by the first sentence or insulted by the second  I’m definitely not HQAC staff

That would be hilarious (but depressing) if my 30 minutes on Photoshop was more planning progress than HQAC make in the next 6 months

And unsurprising.

Sounds like the way central Gov works.

Rumour Control in these here parts is for the current Wing structure is to be done away with and replaced with 13 ‘areas’, headed up by a Gp Cpt RAFR supported by 3 Wg Cdr CFAVs per area.

Time will tell

So each RFCA would become it’s own ‘area’ with a Gp Cpt DDH. That makes a decent amount of sense to be honest. I suppose if you’re going to make big changes you might as well go all the way and make it work as best it can! Pull the plaster off quickly so to speak.

So a Gp Capt increase from 6 to 13…
With all the increased salary costs etc…

Are you on drugs…

There is this though! How many Gp Gpt’s are there now? 6 RCs, 1CCF and 1COS? That would be a big increase in costs.

No way that would happen you would need to employ another 7 Group Captains, that would be over half a million pounds in wages alone.

Each Gp Capt could be responsible for a couple of RFCA areas (e.g. S&NI covers Highland, Lowland and NI RFCAs, W&W covers Wales and West Mids RFCA etc)

Or recruit an Wg Cdr RAFR to cover the large and more sparsely populated areas (Highlands/SW RFCA)
