I'm bored with whinging - so, a gear thread

56x37x19 :frowning: Looking for 56x45x25 I think the UK large cabin bag sizes are bigger than the US domestic sizes.

Would love an excuse to buy Patagonia though!

Same, love mine!

I have the Fjallraven Farden. A bit pricey at full price but can be found on offer sometimes. It is 55x35x23. I prefer the backpack style as it is easier to walk around with and is less likely to get weighed in my experience!

Anyone seen any 1-person ultralight tents with a hydrostatic head of at least 3,000mm and doesn’t require a mortgage to buy?

I saw a decent ultralight in Go Outdoors the other day, but the HH was only 1,500mm which I wouldn’t trust in heavy rain.

Six Moon Designs Luna Solo? According to their websiteit’s 3000mm

Does buying. 70s telecaster deluxe count as gear?

A bit more than I want to pay tbf.

Might just go for the higher weight. A difference of a few hundred grams can save me over £200.

DD Hammocks do some very lightweight trekking pole style tents for not too much money, might be worth a look.

You can get a Lanshan 2 Pro for ~£200, but it’s only 2000mm.

AliExpress: £257.99 but reduced down to ~£180 | 3F UL GEAR Lanshan 2 Pro Silpoly/Silnylon Tent Outdoor Ultralight Poleless Tent T-zip Doors Waterproof Hiking Backpacking

Alpkit’s Tarpstar is a trekking pole tent which has a 3000mm hydrostatic head. It’s VERY lightweight and compact.

However, if you are anywhere north of 180cm tall, then you may experience some issues with your forehead and toes touching the fly sheet. I appreciate that the specifications say it’s 2.5m, but the nature of the teepee style tarp tent means that it’s not actually that high around your head/feet.

The Tarpstar 4, when sleeping almost diagonal around the trekking pole is much better for the taller person… but then you’re compromised by having to heat the additional space of a 4 person tent on your lonesome!!! Taking a friend along may help… as long as they don’t mind sleeping in the nonconformist manner of diagonally across a square.

If you don’t mind a bit more weight, their Soloist or Soloist XL both have a 5000mm HH. And have a lot more headroom and less reliant on a single trekking pole for support!!

Apparently Alpkit has gone into administration! Sad times.

That’s a shame, I like their kit.

They appear to have a buyer - warm words about staff, shops and guarantees, but, you know…

I’m told there are clues in the letter as to the identity of the buyer, but I couldn’t detect them.

I did wonder if it was Ben Fogle, newly of Buffalo…

I nearly had a heart attack, until I saw @angus ’ post. Was about to buy a sleeping pad from them so :crossed_fingers: they do get a buyer!

I like their stuff, but I’ve been trying to buy a relatively simple thing from them (a Griffon top) for about 18 months and they never have them in stock!

Wonder if their administration / wider financial trouble has anything to do with their stock issues

Possible

we’ve seen a couple of retailers hit the buffers because they couldn’t get credit insurance to cover stock orders (not saying this is the case here, in case the lawyers get all lawyer-y)

but it also means money sitting in my wallet that could instead be in their account, plus me being less warm on the hills than I could be!
