I need my First Class for a camp but I don't have it yet

I’m going to a camp abroad at the start of October and I need to have my first class by then. I signed up when I started about 5 months ago and was assured I’d have my first class by then. I’ve missed only 3 sessions since then and have actually went on a week long camp with them but still don’t have my first class. This is due to lack of NCOs that can actually teach us along with WFD and obviously the summer holidays and a lack of cadets overall. We only have the drill test and IET to do then we’re done. I’ve done my bronze Dofe so could I possibly just fill that stuff in at home. We did radios but we didnt fill the workbooks because they forgot. Do you think I can just do that at home and then get the drill test done. What should I do? I literally have my blue wings, blue shot from camp and bronze lyre but not first class :frowning:

Just fill in the workbook and get staff to sign it off and assign the qual on Cadet Portal. No dramas!

5 months in and already have blue wings.

Whatever happens over this camp/first class dilemma, you can consider yourself a very, very, very lucky cadet either way!

yes! I was quite happy to have gottten to do the ground school and flying at the same time

And Flying Operations?

yet hq want us to drag first class out over 18months

Where are you seeing this / getting this reference?

Not seen that… First Class unlocks loads of exciting stuff for our cadets including flying - you should be getting them through it as efficiently as possible, not spending 18 months on it.

apologies Im thinking leading not first.

you don’t have to be first class to go flying

Is this still in date?

My mistake - used to be the case back when it was minimum 13 years and 3 months to fly I think.

Looks like it has now been replaced with “minimum attendance of 12 weeks”.

I don’t know if it is in date but it’s not accurate

I fear our 18+ selling points/offer has taken a bit of a hit since then…

Not sure if this is standard for ccfs or not, but we have most people complete bronze DofE through the school. For everyone that completes it, we just sign off the IET on the basis that they must have done 2 expeds already, so know all the important bits! Does anyone else do this?

CWOs can be promoted into rank at 17 now.

yes I did ask them but they said it didn’t matter because I’d have done them before the camp anyways and I did get my first class this week so I’m not too worried anymore! I do hope that’s be the case though.
