Yeah, now it’s one attacker that makes it far more likely it’s MH. Could still be self-radicalised etc but far less likely to be CT, one attacker, no fake vest etc.

Depends on time between you and attacker i guess. Also what sort of weapon we are talking. Stanley knife… nasty, machette nasty, but needs space.
But i would be grabbbing any umbrella especially.
Opening it and having them stab through it. You can then use it to support twisting their arm out the way as they shouldnt be able to see anything and so be uncordinated.
Best if you can elicit help from another passenger.
Or use an old person walking stick.
If there is a bar trolley. Great. Hot water. Glass bottles. Even a beer can smashed open with the edge stamped down and over to make a sharp edge.
Anything glass, smashed wrapped in a piece of clothing to hold.
Use a suitcase as a heavy object to throw. Not the best, but better than nothing.
Frankly i would be looking for anything and everything.
… but then, i carry foot long heavy duty cable ties in my flight case.. just in case.
None of this just use some belts or a few ties nonsense. For repairs.

You need to be careful about what you admit to carrying for which potential purpose. Though I’m sure the ties are for unexpected repairs to your luggage and not for securing a HVT.
I know how I’d like to think I’d react if caught in that scenario, but I also know quite well that you simply don’t know how you’re going to react until it happens to you.
During the semi-recent hostage rescue issue in Peru, I was quite a bit more hesitant than I thought I’d be.

Especially if they need to take place at extended range from divert.
Its always 2 hours from the Azores when a repair is needed. Like the broken item knows

I have no doubt i would poop the bed. Get slashed and then flail around like an idiot. I am not and for the record very explicitly not, the 2nd man in through the balcony window!
Just thought it worth adding a fee more items to the possible list of availables, rather than relying on the classic fire extinguisher.

Tracy Easton, the chief crown prosecutor for CPS Direct, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute Anthony Williams with 11 counts of attempted murder, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of possession of a bladed article – following a police investigation into an incident on a LNER train from Doncaster to London on Saturday Nov 1 2025.
“Our team of out-of-hours prosecutors worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.
“We worked closely with British Transport Police to review a huge volume of evidence including CCTV. The number of charges will be kept under review as this continues to progress.
“We know the devastating impact the events on Saturday’s train has had and how the incident shocked the entire country. Our thoughts remain with all those affected.”
He is also charged with another count of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article in connection to an incident at Pontoon Dock DLR station on Nov 1.
Williams will appear at Peterborough magistrates’ court on Monday morning."
He was tasered at the point of arrest. The video of the fella walking down the platform being tasered is the guy arrested, then released.

A rail worker credited with saving multiple lives during a mass stabbing on a train has been named as Samir Zitouni.
The 48-year-old’s actions on the Doncaster to London King’s Cross service on Saturday evening were described as “nothing short of heroic”.
Mr Zitouni remains “critically unwell” but stable in hospital, British Transport Police said.
From this and what the police said previously about the CCTV, I hope this fella is put forward for a GC. Sounds deserving!

We may disagree over many things, but I totally agree with you. I hope LNER as an organisation put him forward for the award for the New Year’s honours list, unless the King can unilaterally award it or make his thoughts known to the honours’ committee?

I believe anyone can put him forwards, so long as they know enough about what happened - so doesn’t necessarily need to be LNER.
Anything below the George Medal would be a serious injustice.

Given his “foreign” name, I wonder how conflicted Reform voters are feeling about him showing “true British values” of standing up to aggression and violence.
