How to prepare for Dodentocht?

We’ve got a little gang of 6 adult staff gojng next year - mutual props “I’ll go if you go…” and “You’ve GOT to do it, if I’m gonna do it…!”

Half harvest done the DM before, half haven’t - but we’re all excitedly looking forward to it!

Training dates for the new year are ready…

10 progressively longer walks, starting straight after New Years… plus Cosford, Waendel and Lyneham 2 dayers - and Pathfinder…

If my sums are correct or more importantly my route planning - it looks like 580 miles / 930km…

Then Circuit of Bath and Winter Warma to push that to about 1000km, by this time next year!

Here’s hoping HQAC wake up to the incredible benefits RM as an activity can deliver and give it more enthusiastic support!

For me - it’s hours out of the house, in the fresh air; enjoying the countryside and the company of others…

Making some amazing new friends this summer at NM only magnified my disappointment at not managing to make it out to Bornem this summer - to continue the party…

Here’s looking forward to next year!

Now that’s some organisation!

Convinced my girlfriend to attempt RAFWARMA with me. Most likely 1 x 40km while I do 2 x 40km

I’m sure she’d love a romantic trip to some of the classic Belgian cities for your anniversary. Followed by a day without you as you wander around its countryside chasing a medal.

It gets better/worse.

Turns out you can programme the workouts of the training plan into your Garmin Connect, then add them into the app’s inbuilt calendar so that they automatically appear on your watch on the correct day. So guess what I’ve been doing…

Having just got a Garmin for Xmas I need to do this. Nothing like being guilt tripped by electronics to motivate me

An excellent resource.

I’ve had a 4 different Garmins since getting my first (ForeRunner 235, Vivoactive 3, Fénix 5 and an Enduro), so feel free to drop a message if you need a hand with any of its features.

Just be aware that all Garmins seem to go a bit wonky on their altitude readings with time. I’m currently 15 metes above sea level and my Garmin thinks I’m 3 metres below sea level.

It’s just running a bit fast.

I’m about 15m above sea level too, but with this amount of rain you could easily think I was 3m below! :cloud_with_rain:

Having gone out for my lunch run (with my chosen route blocked by new flooding) and returned home again, I’m now allegedly 36 metres above sea level.

Poor confused watch.

Is it based on GPS or Sea Level Pressure?

It’s barometric, so I suspect the various changes in temperature and weather have been messing with it.

Theoretically I can set it by GPS, but then it still changes by pressure when I’m out and about anyways.

So do you need to update the SLP (use your closest airfield?) Or does it do it automatically?

I tell it what the altitude is, then it uses that pressure reading at that time as the baseline to measure changes.
