HMRC Claim

I’m sure this was discussed before somewhere but after a search I cannot find the details…are we allowed to place a claim tax relief with HMRC using a P87 form?

If yes…

  • is it worth it?
  • how do I do it?
  • what can I claim for?
  • what do I need to submit?

Etc etc etc etc

Thank you in advance

Search for “P87” & you will find this thread:

Thanks Mike, I had seen this thread but it doesn’t answer my questions on claiming using the P87 form and was more tailored to outstanding pay claims.

As far as I can make out (not a tax expert!), the P87 is for “Tax relief for expenses of employment” - can’t really see how this would relate to outstanding pay claims? I’m aware that some RAF personnel have previously claimed the extra between HTD paid by MOD & the HMRC figure (£0.45).

Normally used for F1771 payments, not for renumeration (pay!!) or HTD. I’ve used it for several years, just helps to increase Tax Code; never had a cheque…

You need to ensure you keep records for the whole period, I have in the past been asked for copies of F1771s relating to the period claimed against. But basically, you just complete the P87 and send to your Tax Office.

If you need help ask a tax man…and thats me B)

To confirm the P87 is for work Expenses (not pay) You may back date any claim for travel for 4 years ( April 2011 is as far back as you can go IF you claim by April 2015) .

You declare the amount you have been paid (say 25ppm ) and then claim the difference to 45p.

Normally they adjust your tax code

There is an upper limit for claiming (10,000 miles) but it is per employer so if you work for Bloggs tripe works then you get 2 lots . If you work for the ACO and run a sqn then its from the same pot.

…and in One week I get my Early Retirement from HMRC :stuck_out_tongue:

We aren’t “paid”, we are “remunerated”. Legitimate question: does that make a difference?

In the eyes of the tax law, no

I have loads of those little slips stashed away somewhere, would they come in use for filling in the boxes required? As i don’t keep a copy of every 1771 sent in.

So what would I gain by completing these forms each year? Keep it simple for me please!

:woohoo: Some Money.

DDR61 - Could you provide some advice on this form please. Do we have to fill out one for each financial year? What documentation do we need in order to fill it in. An which sections do we have to fill out?

Thanks
