.Trongia mini brilliant
Apparently hexi replacement stove and fuel is now being issued, so hexi should start disappearing soon.
That is, unless the MOD have a forgotten warehouse full of the stuff !!
It would be interesting to obtain some of the new, just to see what it is like to use . I think BCB (manufacturers) will sell to the general public.
Thread revivalâŚ
Got told last night that Hexi is no longer considered safe to use , or no longer has a safe system of use, and is banned. I wonder why it it was considered safe to use for 40 plus years!!!???!!
At least i can now get rid of the nasty stuff from my shed, where it lives along with the sqdn gas and meths. Firelighters anyone?
Anyone have an opinion on the new Dragonfuel ?
Where did that come from? Iâve not seen anything
OC had been to a fieldcraft training day and was told by the wing experts.
Maybe it is situation normal and yet another rumour!!!
yeah. its rubbish.
the stove thing is a pain, it needs to be dug into the ground and still wobbles about like a loon, and it takes so looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggâŚ
10 minutes for a brew - in the conditions where youâd want to stop for a brew, youâd have died from exposure while you waited.
Have you ever seen the COSHH for Hexamine?
It is toxic in about every single way you can imagine. Why did/does it get used for probably cheapness.
I would say it is pure rumour, which has come about since the news that Hexy is being replaced by the Dragon fuel stuff.
With regards to the safe system of training, as long as the current PAM (AC 71966) references Hexy, then you can use Hexy.
If this is true, good. It has always irked me that it was considered the only cooking mechanism for fieldcraft as per the RA.
I find the dragon fuel stuff isnât that great. It takes ages to heat anything. I only use gas cookers these days anyway!
Do not under any circumstances do what I discovered some poor CCF cadets had been told to do on a joint training weekend earlier in the year - mush up the fuel in your hands before putting it in the stove. JustâŚno.
I havenât tried the issue cooker yet, but the dragonfuel stuff seems to work fine on my Crusader system - maybe takes a bit longer than Hexi but then of course you save a few minutes cleaning at the endâŚ
Or black/brown military style boots, green t-shirts, norgie shirts
I turned out alright.
Weight to size ratio and easy to Resupply, And cache. Can be broken down and rationed if situation dictates. Multiple other combat âusesâ. Can be used in numerous environments.
Only time you Donât use hexi is the Arctic. Itâs far too cold. Gas isnât the best at such low temperatures either.
Stuffs alright. Donât see the problem. Doesnât take that long to make a brew, as long as you have a folded bit of tinfoil for the bottom of your mug. You donât have much cleaning.
Gas canisters and jetboils are always huge. And weigh a bit. For the same space it takes up you can take 4 boxes of hexi at 4 a box.
People moan about it being âunsafeâ but have no problems stuffing their face with food saturated with chemicals, or using plastics that leak estrogen imitating chemicals into their food or drinks.
What you on about?
I prefer leather boots for hillwalking as they are easier to maintain and look after.
Whatâs wrong with green t shirts?
And Norwegian shirts are actually damn good. A good bit of warm kit for working in.
I have a feeling you may have meant for DoE. My point still stands. And pfft DoE. Wear what you want.
The good thing about it is that it comes free with Ration packs, so no need for the cadets to invest in a cooking system for fieldcraft events!
Plus, it means everyone teaches the same lesson the same way, instead of having to work around the gazillion different types of stove on the market.
But it would be nice to boil water for a brew without turning your messtins black or having flies jump in for a swim!
Well the new fuel solves the first problem, and having some sort of lid (ie the other mess tin) solves the second.
I only ever used hexi during basic training at the end of the 70âs\early 80âs. Well, that and the Cadet ForcesâŚ
Iâve had no instruction (CCF) yet about not using Hexamine, although I wonât be sorry to see it go. There are times when everything seems to smell of it. Iâve not personally used the new stuff yet although my Army section has; I expect Iâll come across it on Field Weekend in October.
I hope the order comes soon. The bonfire I intend to have with all our current stock will be mighty!
It will be less mighty than you imagine and will struggle to warm a kettle
